  3. 3. Inequity in healthcare has been known for several years. The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services released a report in 1985 detailing the &quot;large and persistent gaps&quot; in health among Americans belonging to different racial and ethnic groups.
  4. 4. Since this report it has been acknowledged that American health is also affected by sexual orientation gender age
  5. 5. economics education
  6. 6. The 1985 report led to the formation of Offices of Minority Health at the Department of Health and Human Services and the CDC in order to combat the problem.  Health inequity is still a large issue. 
  7. 7. The NRPA has partnered with the CDC's VERB and previous REACH campaigns to encourage youth from all backgrounds to engage in physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Parks and recreation agencies can help combat these disparities in their communities.
