  2. 2. Preparing for an Earthquake Preparing for an earthquake may seem like a waste of time but it can save your life. Earthquakes can cause major damage to buildings, especially houses. Your house will become unstable and break apart. You could then be trapped under rubble with no possible way to call for help. However if you prepare you can avoid this deadly trap.

Ways to prepare for an Earthquake <ul><li>Prepare an emergency kit that includes food and water that lasts at least a week. </li></ul><ul><li>Turn off gas and water. </li></ul><ul><li>Have a fire extinguisher, portable radio, couple batteries, and supplies. </li></ul><ul><li>Know where safe spots are such as doorways, tables and desks. </li></ul><ul><li>Know where danger spots are such as fire places, windows, mirrors, and hanging objects. </li></ul><ul><li>Nail heavy objects down so they will not fall down. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Why it is important Preparing for earthquakes is very important. Even if your area is not on a fault line earthquakes can occur. A big one could pop up and if you are not ready you could be injured or be killed. So be prepared for any kind of earthquake
