A “Tid-Bit” about Greenville<br />The Greater Greenville area, commonly known as The Upstate of South Carolina includes the counties of: Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens, and Cherokee. It also includes the cities of: Greenville, Anderson, Clemson, Simpsonville, Greer, and Spartanburg. <br />

  4. 4. Manufacturing Companies In Greenville<br />The Upstate is home to many different types of manufacturers. On the next slide, you will see the logos of these various companies. Did you Know?<br />The manufacturing sector employs 20% of all South Carolinians.<br />The average salary for a manufacturing job is $42,242 per year; the average salary for other jobs in the state of South Carolina is $32,420 per year.<br />There are more than 5,000 manufacturing businesses in our state.<br />Manufacturing&apos;s share of South Carolina&apos;s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is $24.9 billion.  That&apos;s 18% of the state&apos;s entire GDP.<br />

In 2005, South Carolina manufacturers exported $13.5 billion of the $13.9 billion in total goods; that&apos;s 97% of all exports.<br />Nearly 40% of South Carolina goods go to neighboring NAFTA countries.<br />Almost 25% of all manufacturing jobs in SC depend on exports for their jobs.<br />
  8. 8. Going Green<br />Companies all across the upstate have taken a stand to help protect the environment. BMW, in particular, has made it a priority. This particular site in Spartanburg pre-treats their waste water before releasing it to the local treatment plant. They have also added an on-site butterfly garden and several bird houses to attract and keep the native butterflies and birds there. <br />
