1512 King Ferdinand chose Ponce de León to lead an
expedition to find and colonize an island called Bimini
Set sail with 3 ships and he explored the area of
April 2nd he landed in Florida and left during 1513
Started in Puerto Rico and traveled to St. Augustine
and stopped in San Salvador before
Went to Charlotte Harbor after and traveled past Cape
Catoche and Cuba in 1513
Went back to San German
In 1521 sailed from Puerto Rico with 2 ships carrying
200 settlers and supplies
Made a temporary stop at Fort Myers where they
fought several battles with Calusa Indians
• Was wounded by the Calusa’s and died by his wounds
April 3rd Ponce de León landed on a beautiful place.
Named it La Florida
He was the First European to set foot on Florida.
