2. 2. Personal Opinion

Unfaithful

When things got tough and hard to handle she didn’t want to be a part of it

anymore and had an affair with the detective who was supposed to be

working on her daughters case.

Indecisive

She didn’t want to believe that her daughter was dead by thinking that her

daughter would be able to live without an elbow. Then she completely

gives up on all hope and moves away from her family.

Conceded

She is only thinking of her own needs, whether it’s her affair with Len

Fenerman or moving away from the rest of her family or ignoring her

children. After Susie’s death she doesn’t want to be a mother anymore so she

potentially tries to forget her family by moving to California. Her mother,

daughter and husband are then forced to take over her role as the mother.

 3. 3. In the Beginning

She doesn’t want to believe that her daughter is dead.

They leave the light on at the back door in hopes that she will come home.

She doesn’t want to believe that her daughter was dead. She tried to convince herself that her daughter would be able to live without an elbow.

Finding the jingle hat and a large amount of blood was the breaking point when the family realized that Susie was dead and she wasn’t going to be coming home.

She starts to break herself off from the rest of the family and Lindsay is forced to lie to Buckley. She tells him their mother isn’t feeling well to explain her unusual behaviour.

After it was certain that Susie was dead the family had to start trying to

heal. Every one handled the news in different ways but Abigail was the

only one who no longer desired to be a part of the family anymore.

 4. 4. In the Middle

She agrees and takes Len’s side when he asks Jack to stop calling the station because they are giving up on the case. Jack realizes that Abigail has given up on their daughter.

She ignores her husband when he tries to explain to her who he thinks the murderer is. She misses obvious signs that Mr. Harvey has been lying and moves away when more people suspect him.

She kisses Len outside the hospital where her husband has been injured because no body would believe him.

He mother has a talk with her about marriage and tell her that Abigail's father had an affair with somebody. She tells Abigail she should stop seeing Len but Abigail denies being in love with anyone.

She doesn't get help when she realizes that she is having more trouble

coping with her loss than the rest of the family. She lies to her mother about having

an affair with Len when she could have told the truth and could start fixing her mistakes.

Also, leaving a child alone at a play area is irresponsible and negligent. She should be

looking after her son instead of running off with another man.

 5. 5. In the End

She is horrified by the fact the Lindsay is also taking a part in trying to prove Mr. Harvey as guilty. She doesn’t understand why her daughter would do that.

She leaves Buckley at a play area in the mall just so she can meet up with Len and continue her affair.

She refuses to go to the memorial service in the corn field. She finally talks to her daughter Lindsay and she lies about not leaving the family.

She leaves anyways for California.

She finally comes back home when she finds out that Jack had a heart attack.

Buckley feels no remorse when his mother comes home. Even though she realizes she still loves Jack she doesn’t think she can stay.

She ends up staying and find closure to accepting Susie’s death.

She doesn’t believe the evidence that is in front of her face. It is unacceptable to not go

to your daughters memorial service and have your other daughter lie to your son about

why you’re not going. She does eventually learn a lesson she should have learned

sooner.

 6. 6. My Analysis

In the beginning you have this image of a typical mom. Not far into the story

you find out you are wrong. She neglects her family for her own selfish needs. She can’t

handle loosing her daughter so instead of talking about it or getting help she pushes her

family away until it is like she is no longer a part of the family and doesn’t want to be. Its

shocking to think that a mother would neglect her remaining children instead of helping

them cope and in turn she would also be helping herself. I am also shocked that she

would have an affair with the man who is supposed to be focused on her daughter case,

not only that but she also lies about having a relationship with another man and leaves

her youngest child at a play area while she is with another man. She uses her son as an

excuse to leave the house to be with another man. She leaves home and abandons her

family, but when she returns she thinks that her family should show sympathy for her

when they shouldn’t. In my opinion Abigail Salmon was a mother who didn’t deserve

respect. For leaving her family when they all needed each other was irresponsible and

selfish. I would never be able to forgive my mother if I were in that situation and I was

glad when Buckley didn’t show any sympathy either.
