  2. 2. My Essential Question <ul><li>Why do people want or need children to work for them? </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why I chose this topic <ul><li>I chose Child Slavery because I think it is very cruel that African Children were treated horribly, and I think that we should do something about it. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Previous Knowledge <ul><li>I already know that… </li></ul><ul><li>Children do the work while the masters stay at home and sleep </li></ul><ul><li>The children’s parents are the ones to sell them into slavery </li></ul>
  5. 5. What happens if they escape? <ul><li>A significant amount of child slaves have successfully escaped from slave holders, but the majority will never get to see their families again. </li></ul>
  6. 6. How much do the parents get paid? <ul><li>Some parents sell their children, (mostly girls) for as little as $14.00.Even if the children don’t get to see their parents for 3-4 years. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Attention CHOCOLATE Lovers! <ul><li>Think before you buy that Nestle Crunch bar next time you are at the grocery store, because studies show that they may have been made using child laborers! </li></ul>
  8. 8. What are they wanted for? <ul><li>Child Laborers wanted for: Domestic Work, Industrial Labor, Market Stalls, Shop Assistants, and Sexual Exploitation. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Surprising & Interesting <ul><li>Over 20,000 children work as slaves in Central Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>Some children can be as young as six years old when they are first bought. </li></ul>
