  6. 6. LTE/SAE - Becoming A Mature Technology For Mobile Broadband …to Commercial Rollout From Standardisation… Proof of Concept Proof of Concept completed IODT: Close to completion Interoperability IOT: First results for Air Interface and S1&X2 interface delivered Active Trials Friendly Customer Trials delivering first results
  7. 7. LSTI Friendly Customer Trials (FCT) Consolidated Test Methods For LTE • Common recommendations for set-up of Trial Networks • Common definition of Key Performance Indicators • Common generic procedures for Trial Configuration • 42 test specifications grouped in 13 testing domains • Set of methodologies according to NGMN Field Trial Requirements • LSTI FCT split in 2 Trial Phases: • Radio Access testing allowing non-commercial or simulated EPC solutions • Integration with EPC & E2E using fully “commercial” network platform
  8. 8. LSTI Trials started: 10 Operators perform LSTI Trials

  10. 10. 7 Operators Already Delivering Trial Results Test cases: • Latency • StateTransitions • Throughput • Cell Capacity / Cell Load
  11. 11. First Results Meet Expected Performance Levels Latency First LSTI FCT Trials U-Plane: Measured Round Trip Times (32Byte) demonstrate that LTE can deliver a very low latency experience; this enables PoC Results even the most demanding Trial Results applications such as online 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 ms Non-scheduled gaming. EPC Application Server eNB UE End – End ping Measured Round Trip Times
  12. 12. First Results Meet Expected Performance Levels Throughputs • The measured peak rates for FDD & TDD normalized to 20 MHz meet or exceed the NGMN Field Trial expectations of at least 100 Mbps for downlink & 30-50 Mbps on uplink. • The throughput depending on radio link quality (single UE testing) indicates a good alignment between 6 different trials.
  13. 13. Plans Are Defined For E2E Performance Testing • Both Radio Access testing and End to End testing phases are planned throughout 2010 for most of LSTI Operators. • On a test domain per test domain basis, the LSTI FCT group will analyse detailed results and elaborate an explicit message to the industry. • Performance levels and main relating testing conditions will then be displayed for sustaining the LTE-EPC ecosystem.
