THE HISTORY OF THIS DAY <ul><li>The first Earth Day originated on April,22,1970 and people all over made promises to help the environment. </li></ul><ul><li>Earth Day originated in the United States Of America. </li></ul><ul><li>Earth Day was originated because the former senator of Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson thought the state of our environment was not an issue to The politicians of our country . </li></ul>
  3. 3. ISLAM AND ENVIRONMENTALISM <ul><li>There are more than 700 verses in the Quran that exhort believers to reflect on nature </li></ul><ul><li>The Quran also describes the believing men and women as those who &quot;walk on the Earth in humility.&quot; (25:63) </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>The Prophet Muhammad told his followers they would be rewarded by God for taking care of the Earth. He said: &quot;If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or an animal eats of it, he will be rewarded as if he had given that much in charity.&quot; (Sahih Al- Bukhari, 8:41) </li></ul>

SOME FACTS <ul><li>Recycling 1 tone of plastic saves 750 kg of oil. </li></ul><ul><li>In 2025 two thirds of the world’s population will suffer from a lack of water unless large-scale action is taken. </li></ul><ul><li>Every year, plastic waste kills 1 million birds, 100,000 marine mammals and an incalculable </li></ul><ul><li>number of fish. </li></ul><ul><li>Planting a tree reduces the pollution of groundwater, helps fight erosion, and helps reconstitute </li></ul><ul><li>chemically damaged soils and the storage of CO2. </li></ul><ul><li>In developing countries, 90% of wastewater is returned untreated into rivers and streams. </li></ul><ul><li>181 countries have ratified the Kyoto Protocol, committing them to reduce greenhouse gases. </li></ul><ul><li>However the United States, the highest greenhouse gas producing country in the world, has not </li></ul><ul><li>signed it. </li></ul>
