What is tagging? <ul><li>- Assigning a keyword or phrase to a resource to provide organization </li></ul><ul><li>- Once tags are assigned a user can search for all resources grouped to a particular tag </li></ul><ul><li>- Allows for multiple resources, such as movies, books, and audio files assigned to a particular term to be discovered at once </li></ul>

What is a folksonomy? <ul><li>Tagging by non-professionals, i.e, everyday users </li></ul><ul><li>Term coined by Thomas Vander Wal (2005) to describe a taxonomy created by users “folks” </li></ul><ul><li>Individuals tag items within a website community creating a “tag cloud” which can be accessed by multiple users </li></ul>
