  2. 2. What caused the tsunami? <ul><li>The under sea earthquake that was caused by Subduction and started as a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean </li></ul>
  3. 4. DAMAGE! <ul><li>Mostly affected: </li></ul><ul><li>Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand </li></ul><ul><li>Because the epicenter was the West Coast of Sumatra, Indonesia (that is very close to those countries.) </li></ul><ul><li>286,000 deaths, 2 nd Deadliest Earthquake </li></ul>
  4. 7. Waves <ul><li>Flooding coastal communities with waves up to 30 meters/100 feet high </li></ul>
  5. 8. How important the beaches shapes are… <ul><li>Depending on the depth of the water, the beach had, decided how much destruction it will make. </li></ul><ul><li>Shallow - not as much, as the wave would break until it would reach the shore… </li></ul><ul><li>Deep - FULL DESTRUCTION as it can grow to maximum height! </li></ul>

  7. 10. Should we blame the scientists? <ul><li>No – They knew it was a very high wave but couldn’t imagine such an output. </li></ul><ul><li>Yes – They should of taken special measures. </li></ul><ul><li>i.e. Starting the evacuation of people IMMEDIATELY . </li></ul>
  8. 11. Why DID most people not get a Warning??????? <ul><li>Because no one wanted to frighten the tourists and because they were not sure how big the earthquake was they decided to risk!!!! </li></ul>
  9. 12. Are we allowed to risk with peoples’ lives???
  10. 14. How to decrease the loss of life/damage if another tsunami comes?? <ul><li>If you are at home and you hear about a warning inform to all your family members and evacuate the house. And go somewhere safer. </li></ul><ul><li>If you are near the water move immediately to higher ground, move away from water. </li></ul><ul><li>DON’T FORGET= YOU ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF MINUTES… </li></ul>
