The 7 ‘unders of near drowning

Near drowning factors <ul><li>There are at least  7 causal factors   that when one or more are in place, can result in injury or death. </li></ul><ul><li>I developed these after a (minor)near drowning at a 'swim at your own risk&quot; pool. They also apply to lifeguarded pools. </li></ul><ul><li>Near drownings can become life threatening or life changing. </li></ul><ul><li>I have developed these 7 ‘unders as a simple way to recognize and reduce near drownings. </li></ul>
  2. 3. 1. Under supervised <ul><li>The person is improperly supervised by their parent or guardian.(such as a 12 year old watching their 7 year old brother) or not supervised at all. </li></ul>
  3. 4. 2. Under the Influence <ul><li>Alcohol or drugs affect and impair coordination and judgment </li></ul>
  4. 5. 3. Under Pressure <ul><li>Risky behavior such as horseplay while trying to impress others. </li></ul>
  5. 6. 4. Under their Breath <ul><li>Breath holding games contribute to near drownings. </li></ul>
  6. 7. 5. Under Skilled <ul><li>Not having basic water safety skills or confidence which leads to panic. </li></ul>
  7. 8. 6. Under Estimated <ul><li>Not being aware of the dangers of deep water or Pool dynamics. </li></ul>
  8. 9. 7. Under Water <ul><li>Obvious, but that's where people end up without an oxygen supply. </li></ul>

He moved to central Florida and has worked in the outdoor waterpark industry including Hotel/Resort and timeshare market.
