Present Perfect vs Past tense The present perfect is used when the time period has NOT finished: I have seen three movies this week. I have gone to the CAADI during this week. My brother hasn’t had the exam at school this semester. The simple past is used when the time period HAS finished: I saw that movie last week. I went to the CAADI last Monday. My brother had the exam last semester.
The present perfect is often used when giving recent news: The simple past is used when giving older information: Martin has crashed his car again. The teacher has gotten married. We have had a written exam. Martin crashed his car last year The teacher got married last month. We had a written exam yesterday.
The present perfect is used when the time is not specific The simple past is used when the time is clear: I have already worked in USA They have already done homework. Sandra has already asked permisson. I saw that movie on Thursday. They did homework yesterday night. Sandra asked permisson in the morning
