  1. 1. WHAT IS A WEB BROWSER? A SOFTWARE APPLICATION WHICH ENABLES A USER TO DISPLAY AND INTERACT WITH TEXT, IMAGES, VIDEOS, MUSIC, GAMES AND OTHER INFORMATION TYPICALLY LOCATED ON A WEB PAGE AT A WEB SITE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB OR A LOCAL AREA NETWORK. Makayla Holland Period 4
  2. 2. HOW CAN YOU TELL IF A WEBSITE IS SECURE? the URL of a secure site begins with https: - the “s”  indicates a secure web site  an interactive lock is displayed on the site, usually in the bottom corner  a seal is another indication of safety
  3. 3. HOW DO YOU FIND OUT THE DOMAIN OF A WEBSITE? It’s the last part in a web address  .com   .net  .gov
  4. 4. VERIFYING INFORMATION Creator- what is the author’s name and  organization?  www.easywhois.com to find information on the person or organization who has registered the domain name  date of creation

FTP/HTTP HTTP:  used to transfer files from a web server onto a browser in order to view a page  HTTP only transfers the contents of a web page into a browser for viewing  when HTTP appears in a URL it means that the user is connecting to a web server and  not a file server  the files are transferred but not downloaded, therefore not copied into the memory  FTP  entire files are transferred from one device to another and into memory  FTP 2-way system as files are transferred between server and workstation 

RULES WHEN CONTACTING PEOPLE: behave properly when online   Employers and college recruiters are frequently turning to online social networking sites to assess the behavior of potential employees  a. inappropriate pictures and illegal behavior may be viewed by future employers and can improve fatal to one’s job potential  your online reputation is valuable  posting harmful information about someone on the internet and especially on social networking sites is never a good idea
