Overview <ul><li>My name is Juli Umetsu </li></ul><ul><li>I started school in the 1960’s in Michigan </li></ul><ul><li>I graduated from high school in 1976 in Naperville, IL </li></ul><ul><li>I first went to college at the University of Iowa in 1976 and received my degree Bachelors degree in Business Administration </li></ul><ul><li>I followed this with a post-bacc degree in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix </li></ul><ul><li>When I finish my current studies and earn my MEd degree in educational technology, I hope to become a better college instructor, utilizing current technology in my curriculum. </li></ul>
  3. 3. My definition of educational technology I believe that educational technology is an exciting, ever-changing, always useful tool to improve learning in a student centered, technology rich, classroom.

  6. 6. High school technology <ul><li>I attended three different high schools in two different countries. Very different schools…very different cultures. However, one thing was constant . My classroom in the 1970’s came with the same standard equipment: slide projector , screen , and overhead. </li></ul>
  7. 7. College technology <ul><li>Basic Computer Language & DOS </li></ul><ul><li>Computers too expensive for the average student (BUT every student had an electric typewriter!) </li></ul>
  8. 8. A vivid technology learning experience <ul><li>I love Open Table! This is an innovative restaurant reservation system that allows the user (diner) to make a confirmed reservation at thousands of restaurants around the world.   9. 9. A technology I want to use in my classroom <ul><li>In the culinary field, it would be great to incorporate the use of computer technology to order directly from the farmers – ordering and receiving only the freshest produce, harvested that day! </li></ul>
  10. 10. My vision of the classroom of the future… <ul><li>A student centered learning environment that is technology enhanced with lessons that are always meaningful to the students. Although this should be standard in all classrooms today, I feel that until all administrators and educators “buy-in” it will still be a vision for the future. </li></ul>

A challenge for teaching <ul><li>I would challenge the Maui Culinary Academy to use Web 2.0 tools such as ifoods.tv not just as a teaching platform, but as an opportunity for our students to creatively post recipes and interact with Chefs around in the global community. </li></ul>www.ifoods.tv
