Stronger – Kanyé West

 1. 1. Stronger – Kanyeeeeeeeeee West “ Kanye is the kind of guy who likes to search and explore”
 2. 2. Where it all came from

This track used a sample from the Daft Punk song “harder, faster, better, stronger”

This song itself was based on a sample of the 70’s funkateer Edwin Birdsong’s song “ Cola bottle baby”

Daft Punk gave this song a kraftwerk robotic feel, quantising the beat of vocoded the vocals. They also added a melodic chorus with a descending chord sequence which was the sample finally used by Kanye.

 3. 3. How was it changed?

Slower tempo

Loosened the rhythm

Overdubbed pulsating synths

Evocative rapping and singing

This resulted in a less robotitc and more soulful sound.

 4. 4. The many attempts

11 mixers tried to create this track yet failed.

The final mixer chosen was Manny Marroquin who had worked with Kanye before.

 5. 5. How the sample was used in the track

The sample was placed in the foreground of the track

It was panned outwards by using a doubler and a little EQ to spread the sound so the vocals were dominant.

 6. 6. How the Song was produced

There were over 100 elements were used in the track.

Kick drum dominates the low EQ providing a driving force in the song.

3 kick drum sounds were eventually chosen being used in different parts of the track.

The snare low-mid frequencies were reduced more than other snares to keep emphasis on the kick.

A standard bass was replaced with a synth tone.

The elements were mixed together to create a warm and rounded feel

 7. 7. Vocals + Keyboard

Large amounts of keyboards where added to the mix in New York.

There were 8 stereo tracks of keyboards

The vocals were EQed to sound thick and show off the full spectrum of his voice

They were heavily compressed

Some delay was also added in some sections of the song

More standard processes were also used such as the De-esser

 8. 8. Fin

Vote for Elliot

A vote for Britton is a vote for Britain
