Child Slavery

 1. 1. Child Slavery By: Gabrielle Juliano
 2. 2. Why is Child Slavery an issue in Africa? My Essential Question
 3. 3. How do they get the children?

Some Brokers say they persuade parents that their children will receive a professional training or good education with a wealthy family.

Or some say they kidnap children simply playing outside or who have wandered into urban areas.

 4. 4. What are they wanted for?

Some are wanted for domestic work, industrial labor, market stalls, shop assistants, and sexual exploitation.

Also to work on cocoa farms to harvest beans in which chocolate is made from.

 5. 5. Why do the children work?

They work because their families are poor and their labor is necessary for their survival.

Also compared to adults, children are more vulnerable, cheaper to hire and are less likely to demand higher wages or better working conditions.

 6. 6. Child Slavery

I chose my topic because I don’t think children should be slavery and have to work from early morning to late night. If I was sold into slavery I would hate it but most of the times the families need money to survive so they have to sell their child for the money.

 7. 7. Things I already knew about child slavery

I already knew that there were some child slaves that fished at about 4 in the morning and they were rescued and they found the child's family and introduced them for a second time.

Also I knew that some kids were slaves at a chocolate farm.

 8. 8. Surprising facts that I learned

Usually when children are working, they go on long journeys and sometimes they die.

Some children are very young when they start working.

Sometimes brokers kidnap children if they are playing outside alone.

 9. 9. Questions I still have.

Is child slavery in Africa ever going to end?

How many children are slaves in Africa?

What do they brokers do if kids die on the journey?
