The Laissez-Faire Approach <ul><li>Laissez-Faire Leader </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Delineate the goals of the organization, but will allow employees to go about attaining these goals in whatever way they wish. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Laissez-Faire is a French word translated to mean “leave it be” </li></ul></ul></ul>

The Participatory Approach <ul><li>Participatory Leaders </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Routinely involve their subordinates in the decision-making process </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Participatory Leaders can be democratic or consultative. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Democratic leaders allow the group to have the last word in every decision </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Consultative leaders encourage participation throughout the decision making process, but have the right to have the final say </li></ul></ul></ul></ul>

But the qualities of good leaders—self-knowledge, commitment, willingness to look to others for support, being open to change, and a desire to go the extra mile—can determine whether anyone chooses to follow. </li></ul>
