Many of you might not be familiar with the name Wyndham Hotel Group, it’s only 5 years old afterall. But how long have you heard of a Days Inn Hotels, or a Ramada Suites? How many of you have stayed at one of those hotels?
Before I jump into the company’s present, let me take a second on their past. There was a company called HFS, it stood for Hotel Franchise Systems Incorporated. HFS was part a much larger company called Cendant. Cendant ceased operations in 2006 and one of the companies to spin-off it was Wyndham Worldwide. Wyndham Hotel Group is actually one of three divisions in this publicly traded company- Wyndham Worldwide. You see, in the early 90’s, the HFS portfolio only consisted of Days Inn, Ramada, Super 8, and Howard Johnson. Today, this portfolio stands as under the name Wyndham Hotel Group with over 15 brands across 65 countries. The company boasts over 600,000 rooms worldwide.
The company has grown tremendously over the last few years acquiring brands like Microtel, Hawthron Suites, Tryp Hotels, and striking up deals with High-end signature names like Dream and Night Hotels as well as Planet Hollywood. It’s should come by no surprise that the company is in fact the worlds largest and most diverse hotel company with over 7200 hotels and 15 brands.
Eric Danzinger, Wyndham Hotel Group CEO, seeks to spread the word that they indeed have a hotel for every kind of travler and every kind of trip. When it’s a special couple retreat to the city, you may enjoy your stay at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Downtown or perhaps at the Dream Boutique Hotel in Midtown. If you are a business traveler on the go, you might find the accomdations at the Wingate and Wyndham garden quite fitting to your needs. There is something for everyone and every trip, from high-end luxury to modest economy.
The company didn’t reach it’s size by coincidence. The CEO has lead the charge on a mission for the company to become largest hotel company by room size in the world. The company has reached over 600 thousand rooms, only 50 thousand rooms behind the current global leader. The company also does a great job appreciating and attending to it’s customers inside- it’s employees. The company has been recognized across the board by fortuen magazine for being a leader in diversity, corporate sustainaibility, and has been on Fortunes Most admired Companies list for three consecutive years.
Wyndham Hotel group has a culture that is in many ways very distinguishable from other companies. For years they have been preaching this “Count on Me!” service based culture. It calls for responsivness and accountability from every employee to not only external customers but internal customers as well. This has created a “be with us and stay with us” company that strives to take customer service to the next level. Microtel- part of the Wyndham family of brands, ranked "Highest in Guest Satisfaction Among Economy/Budget Hotel Chains" in 2011 by J.D. Power and Associates for tenth consecutive year in a row. That says something.
That is Wyndham Hotel Group- but I still havn’t told you what exactly Wyndham Hotel group does. Well it’s quite simple actually. They have this huge family of well recognized brands and they provide those brands for franchising. The company’s business model works on franchising. A franchisee opens a hotel with one of the brands offered (pending guidelines and requirements) and pays royalties among fees for other services provided. Other revenue streams include their Wynrewards guest loyalty program.
Wyndham is well on it’s way on becoming the company to provide accomodations to any traveler across the globe. Next time, you are looking for a hotel
