  2. 2. The United States is run by the President,Congress, and the Supreme Court.The President is someone who is chosen bythe public by voting. Mount Rushmore hasfour famous Presidents sculpted on a wall ofrock. The Presidents are: George Washington,Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, andAbraham Lincoln.
  3. 3. The government is founded on theConstitution. The Constitution waswritten by our founding fathers. TheConstitution is written so additionalamendments could be added if needed.
  4. 4. Because people from many cultureshave come to this country, we havea large variety of music andmusicians: such as Elvis, BeachBoys, Frank Sinatra, LadyGaga, Louie Armstrong, etc.
  5. 5. Our country loves movies. We make moviesabout many different subjects. There is even alarge city that is known for being the center offilm culture which is Hollywood.
  6. 6. The Written language is very importantto America. Many famous documentswere written to show America’sdetermination against the British. TheCommon Sense pamphlet was written toconvince Americans to fight against theBritish.
  7. 7. Edgar Allan Poe was a famous AmericanWriter and Poet. He wrote many works such asThe Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Black Cat, ADream Within a Dream, etc.
  8. 8. The phone was invented by AlexanderBell in Boston in 1876. Originallyphones needed wires to connect toeach other. Now we have cell phonesthat travel anywhere and can evensurf the web.
  9. 9. In WWII, America created thenuclear bomb. It creates a verylarge amount of energy by splittingan atom. It was first used as aweapon against the Japanese.Today it has many more uses, suchas power and medical.
  10. 10. Mormonism was founded byJoseph Smith in America in the1820s. It is similar toChristianity. Utah was foundedby Mormons to have a place toworship freely.
  11. 11. The Amish are a group of Christiansknown for their simple life styles.They dress in plain cloths and oftenrefuse to use modern technology.When they turn 18 they are given oneyear to use technology. After thatyear they can either choose to stayAmish or join the modern world.
  12. 12. In America, the social structure isbased mostly on money. There is theupper, middle, and lower class.Today, most of the population existsin the middle class.
  13. 13. Because the American class system isbased on money, and not set at birth,people have the ability to change theirsocial class in their life time. This iswhy America is often called the land ofdreams. Many immigrants come toAmerica to start a new life, and givetheir children the chance of a better life.
  14. 14. Cows are a very important animal inAmerica for providing food. They arealmost every where in America. Theyproduce many food products such as:beef, cheese, and milk.
  15. 15. Many different crops are grown acrossthe country, such aspotatoes, corn, grapes, etc. HoweverAmerica also trades around the worldand supplies food to many other nations.
