    21. 21. Parental engagement and Ofsted
    22. 22. Parental engagement and Ofsted The school has a highly positive relationship with all groups of parents and carers, particularly those groups of parents and carers who might traditionally find working with the school difficult. Parents and carers are heavily involved in decision-making on key matters through well-established procedures. Parents and carers are exceptionally well informed about all aspects of their own children’s achievement, well-being and Outstanding development. The school provides tailored guidance and information about precise (1) ways parents and carers can support their children’s learning across a wide range of subjects. All groups of parents and carers are able to communicate with the school through a wide range of media. Consistent and productive partnerships ensure that parents and carers are strongly engaged with their children’s learning and the school’s work. The school’s systems for keeping parents informed about aspects of its work ensure that parents and carers have coordinated, up-to-date, accurate and timely information. The school has a highly positive relationship with most groups of parents and carers. The school regularly asks parents and carers for their views and ensures that these are used to inform important decisions about whole-school matters. Parents and carers are kept well informed about their children’s achievement, well-being and development. The school Good helps parents and carers to support their children’s learning in different ways. The (2) effective liaison with parents and carers contributes to improvements in pupils’ achievement, well-being and development. There are clear and accessible channels for parents and carers to communicate with the school which the school actively encourages parents to pursue. The school’s systems for keeping parents informed about aspects of its work run smoothly.

    26. 26. Learner information • Schools have always collected and managed a range of learner information. • Technology developments mean we can now manage this kind of information for the direct benefit of learners, by enabling staff to work more flexibly, and for engaging parents/carers in their child’s learning.
    27. 27. ICT can • Provide a convenient way for parents to access up-to- date information about their child’s learning, anywhere and anytime they like. • Enable parents to be more engaged with their child’s learning which drives improvement. • Support more flexible working arrangements and distribution of work for staff. • Enable information to be captured more efficiently as part of learning and teaching processes that exploit technology.
    28. 28. The benefits to parents include: • Easy access to information about their children where and when they want. • Improved understanding of their children’s experience. • Deeper involvement with all aspects of school life. • Improved capacity to support their children’s education. • Improved dialogue with teachers. • More effective use of face to face time with teachers. • Direct support for the raising of their child’s achievement.”
    29. 29. The Children’s Plan (December 2007) Parents to have access to • Attendance and behaviour (both positive and challenging). • Progress and attainment • Special needs It is expected to be achieved by Secondary schools – Sept 2010, Primary schools - 2012 However, this aspiration to share information online should be seen in the context of wider parental engagement.
