How to set up an Aeroponic Garden
1. How to set up an Aeroponic Garden
Growing plants aeroponically is one of the best ways of getting the maximum growth from the plants. Furthermore, the
plants can be grown aeroponically indoors with the least amount of space and there are no problems with pests and
diseases at all. If you are planning on setting up an aeroponic garden, we have a few tips that you can follow to make sure
that your first attempt is a success.
Use only PVC-based piping inside your aeroponic garden. CPVC piping is available on the market but the CPVC can
interact with the chemicals in the nutrient mix causing adverse reactions.
Lights have to be used inside the closed aeroponic room. To get the best from the lighting system, it is recommended
that you use the lights for 16 hours per day. The timer is connected to the nutrient pump and it will ensure that the plant
is sprayed at the correct times during the day. If you do not want to use lighting systems, make sure that the plants are
located about 1-2 feet away from a sunny location. This will ensure that the plants grow faster. However, make sure that
the lights are off for at least 4 hours per day.
Ensure that the roots of the aeroponically grown plants are free of moisture after the watering process. Excess water can
lead to root rot. You will be able to notice this when the roots start to change in color. Normal healthy roots are usually
milky white in color but they change to a dark tan color when they are not healthy.
There are three different types of spraying systems that are used in most aeroponic gardens. You can choose from low
pressure, high pressure and commercial spraying systems. These systems will be available on the market and you can
choose the right one for your needs.
The correct spray pressure and timing is necessary as the water spray ensures that the plants are cleaned out and kept
turgid. The duration of the spray also ensures that water and nutrients are forced into the root mass encouraging plant
growth.
Plants need 16 mineral nutrients to grow but not all of them are important. Three major nutrients include: nitrogen,
phosphorous and potassium. They are vital to the growing process and they have to be used in the right percentage to
ensure proper plant growth.
Setting up your own aeroponic garden is not easy. The gardening process is quite sensitive and the roots have to be
protected to make sure that they do not get damaged during the gardening process. As a result, it is very necessary for
you to read up as much as possible on hydroponic gardening, ordinary gardening and aeroponics. It will help you out
when you start.
