RDA Centru at a glanceThe Regional Development Agency Centru:•Is a non-governmental, non-profit body of public utility that acts in the field of regional development•Is the main institution acting at regional level and is responsible for the planning and implementationof development measures in the Region;•Is an Intermediate Body for the management of ERDF funds that are allocated at regional level forreducing the existent disparities;•Is the coordinator of regional partners, in many development fields;•Implements interregional cooperation projects financed through EU programs such as:INTERREG IV C, CIP, FP7, SEE, with the purpose of improving the regional developmentprocess. 3

The most important issues/ stakes in the region/ country regarding rural developmentCentru Region faces a series of problems and chalangesconcerning the rural development, the most importantbeing: • Ageing and demographic decline; • Depopulation due to massive migration; • Unemployment correlated with the practice of subsistence agriculture; • Lack of internet and ITC infrastructure; • Lack of access to healthcare and social services in the isolated rural areas • Under-developed rural tourism 5
  6. 6. Existing policies regarding rural development1. Regional Policies: • The Regional Development Plan 2007-2013 - Priority 4, Rural development includes: • Measures for increasing the competitiveness of the agri- food and forestry sectors; • Measures for improving the quality of life in rural areas and for encouraging the diversification of the rural economy. • The Regional Operational Program 2007-2013 includes: • Measures for improving the social and educational infrastructure in the rural and urban areas; • Measures for the development of tourism infrastructure in the rural and urban areas. 6

National Policies: • The National Plan for Rural Development 2007 – 2013, includes measures and financing instruments designed to: • Increase the competitiveness of the agri-food and forestry sectors; • Protect the environment in the rural sites; • Improve the general infrastructure of the rural areas; • Improve the quality of life in the rural areas. 7
  8. 8. Activities/ projects alreadyimplemented in rural developmentThere are several projects implemented by regionalinstitutions or NGOs, offering solutions to the ruralchallenges. Their main fields of interventions are: • Implementation of telework systems; • Development of entrepreneurial abilities; • Promotion and development of rural tourism; • Promotion of traditional crafts and hand made products; • Accessibility to social and healthcare services in the remote areas; • Professional and technical qualification programs for unemployed persons. 8

RDA Centru in GRISI PLUS and its expectationsOur expectation from the GRISI PLUS project and partners areto:•LEARN to use the geomatic instruments in order to improvethe attractiveness of our rural areas;•SHARE our best practices with the project partners, so thateveryone could replicate, adapt and improve them in their ownterittories.•PROMOTE the theme, activities and results of the projectamong the regional decision makers and the general population•DEVELOP fruitful and efficient partnerships with the partnersregions, inside and beyond the framework of the GRISI PLUSproject. 9

The good practices to transfer to other regionsThe main focus of the Regional Development Agency Centru,as GRISI PLUS project partner will be to identify the bestregional projects and national programs and share them asgood practices with our project partners.This initiatives will be presented and analyzed during ourproject workshops and study visits, and it will be our pleasureto promote them if they will prove to be fitted, relevant andtransferable. 10
