Study of religions
against prejudices
and sterotypes
Religions are an essential element in the cultural
identity of our societies, but they have often been
associated with stereotypes and prejudices. As a
matter of fact, European countries are involved in a
and fear. These are important challenges that
demand long-term educational efforts in order to
foster mutual understanding and inclusion, as well
As a common problem of all Europe, the response
should be European. Since religious issues are
taught differently in the various EU countries (often
related to confessional teaching) the SORAPS
Project aims to gather the best expertise in the
EU to offer a common, transferable and scalable
approach that goes beyond the different
teaching of religions, but targets the larger
scope of teachers involved in Humanities and
Social Sciences.
Project background
The SORAPS project aims to develop social, civic
and intercultural competences of teachers by
enhancing their knowledge, skills and critical
thinkinginthetwointertwinedtopicsofreligions
and interculturality, enabling them to teach in
their schools on these topics. This objective will
be achieved by adopting an objective, critical and
& methodology of countering the prejudices and
stereotypes that arise around religions but also
within religions.
Objectives
Through the project, and in order to achieve the project
objectives, the following activities and results will be
developed:
- Guidelines on stereotypes and prejudices in
religions: short publication consisting in results
of studies of existing literature, survey analysis on
the topic “Prejudices and Stereotypes in Religion”.
- Teachers training course: course curriculum
with correlated training materials on studies of
religions through an intercultural perspective.
It is focused on and aims to tackle prejudices
and stereotypes regarding religions by
knowledge and adequate training approaches.
- Online training platform: is meant to provide
a virtual space dedicated to the training of the
teachers from the partners’ schools. It is equipped
with tools and training resources necessary to
properly train teachers on the topic of Religions
and Interculturality.
All the resources produced in SORAPS will be free
to use and openly accessible by any schools or
training institutions in the EU through the project’s
website.
Activities & Outcomes
SORAPS project, coordinated by Università Ca’
Foscari di Venezia involves a wide European
partnership built on principle of complementarity
and added value and including universities
as knowledge centres, NGO’s experienced in
intercultural education in schools, and secondary
schools as a piloting actors for implementing
methodologies and tools produced by project.

Combat religious prejudices through education

  • 1. Study of religions against prejudices and sterotypes
  • 2. Religions are an essential element in the cultural identity of our societies, but they have often been associated with stereotypes and prejudices. As a matter of fact, European countries are involved in a and fear. These are important challenges that demand long-term educational efforts in order to foster mutual understanding and inclusion, as well As a common problem of all Europe, the response should be European. Since religious issues are taught differently in the various EU countries (often related to confessional teaching) the SORAPS Project aims to gather the best expertise in the EU to offer a common, transferable and scalable approach that goes beyond the different teaching of religions, but targets the larger scope of teachers involved in Humanities and Social Sciences. The SORAPS project aims to develop social, civic and intercultural competences of teachers by enhancing their knowledge, skills and critical thinkinginthetwointertwinedtopicsofreligions and interculturality, enabling them to teach in their schools on these topics. This objective will be achieved by adopting an objective, critical and & methodology of countering the prejudices and stereotypes that arise around religions but also within religions. Objectives

Through the project, and in order to achieve the project objectives, the following activities and results will be developed: - Guidelines on stereotypes and prejudices in religions: short publication consisting in results of studies of existing literature, survey analysis on the topic “Prejudices and Stereotypes in Religion”. - Teachers training course: course curriculum with correlated training materials on studies of religions through an intercultural perspective. It is focused on and aims to tackle prejudices and stereotypes regarding religions by knowledge and adequate training approaches. - Online training platform: is meant to provide a virtual space dedicated to the training of the teachers from the partners’ schools. It is equipped with tools and training resources necessary to properly train teachers on the topic of Religions and Interculturality. All the resources produced in SORAPS will be free to use and openly accessible by any schools or training institutions in the EU through the project’s website. Activities & Outcomes

SORAPS project, coordinated by Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia involves a wide European partnership built on principle of complementarity and added value and including universities as knowledge centres, NGO’s experienced in intercultural education in schools, and secondary schools as a piloting actors for implementing methodologies and tools produced by project. It is composed, beside the coordinator Dipartimento di Studi sull’Asia e sull’Africa Mediterranea – Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia (Italy), by École Pratique des Hautes Études – Institut Européen en Sciences des Religions (France), Universidad de Salamanca – Research Group in Interaction and eLearning (Spain), Universität Augsburg – Lehrstuhl für Didaktik der Geschichte (Germany), Syddansk Universitet – Institut for Historie (Denmark), (Italy) and the following schools: I.E.S. Campo Charro (Spain), Convitto Nazionale “Marco Foscarini” (Italy), Lycée René Cassin (France). Network
