  2. 2. History<br />Moving picture invented about mid 1890s<br />No practical way to attach sound to pictures at first.<br />Thomas Edison was the biggest person involved in improving the movies. He improved one of his own, earlier inventions and made the 1st commercially successful projector in the U.S.<br />
  3. 3. History, cont.<br />Sound was first added in 1923, but the pictures were strictly short.<br />Eventually, this led to global popularity, more developments in movies, Hollywood’s creation and expansion, and India’s film industry expanding.<br />

ROLE AND FUNCTION<br />People go to movies to: have fun, laugh cry, be scared witless, escape from their everyday lives, and more.<br />People make movies to: get messages out, promote/discredit a cause, persuade people to their way of thinking, expose things they think the world should know about, and more.<br />
  5. 5. EXAMPLES <br />Some well known films are:<br />1. The Godfather<br />2. The Matrix<br />3.Star Wars <br />4. Finding Nemo<br />
  6. 6. HOW HAS DIGITAL IMPACTED FILM?<br />Instead of cinematographers using film most have now switched to digital cameras. <br />When editing film, editors would cut out the clips manually. Now there is digital editing. <br />Digital Movies: <br />Slum dog Millionaire <br />Avatar <br />
