In developing countries, widespread childhood vaccination is a major public health challenge. An estimated 1.5 million children die each year from vaccine-preventable diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia.
The Records for Life Contest, an initiative of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, asked designers to rethink the vaccination record. Making the record more accessible, accurate and useful for parents and health workers can help ensure that children get the life-saving vaccinations they need.
A multidisciplinary team at gravitytank, an innovation consultancy in Chicago and San Francisco, took on this important challenge. This is the story of our approach and process, and a detailed look at 'Pasteur,' our grand-prize winning solution. We hope you enjoy it.
