  1. 1. The civilization of ancient Greece existed between 800BCand 146BC. It was locatedin the Mediterranean Sea, in the southern part of Europe. It is still interesting tolearn about its architecture, defense, writing and language. The rules and legacies ofancient Greece can still be see around the world today.
  2. 2. ArchitectureAncient Greek architecture was beautiful and very mathematical. Temples,like the Parthenon, were built to honor the gods so they were large marblebuildings with lots of gold and bronze decorations. The Greeks used Mathtricks to make their columns look straight.There were three types of columns: Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. The Greeks houses for rich peoples are made of sun-dried mud bricks andcool rooms around the courtyard. The agora was the place where mainbuildings and meeting took place there were also markets and law courtsthere. Therefore, the buildings that are left in ancient Greece tell us a lotabout their lives.
  3. 3. DefenseThe Greeks needed to defend their civilization because there were oftenwars and invasions. If you what to be a soldier you must be 18 and havetrained for 2 years in the army. They used metal armor andgreaves on their leg. They built big walls around the city and they hadnavies at the sea to defend their cities.
  4. 4. Writing and LanguageWriting and language was very important to the Greeks. The Greeks usedthe alphabet for writing history and plays . The famous writers wereSophocles who wrote many plays and Herodotus, who wrote in many landsaround the world. The Greeks copied books by hand and wrote on reedpaper with pens made of ivory. This evidence tells us that ancient Greeceinvented alphabets and that writing and language was very very importantto the ancient Greeks.
  5. 5. Rules in GreeceIn Greece there was different rules which were handed down by differentpeople. First men did more things than women did. While boys were in schoolgirls were taught by their mothers. Men acted in plays and also did the shopping.Women stayed at home with their children. Rich men went to parties almostevery day and night. In Sparta, there were two royal kings to hand down the lawsbut in Athens people voted and made decisions as a group.
  6. 6. Legacies of GreeceThere are many legacies of ancient Greece. One was theatre because theyinvented comedy and tragedy plays. The also discovered lots of themathematics that can be seen in their architecture and they made lots ofscientific discoveries, too. The two most important legacies were theOlympics and alphabet which are very important in our lives today.

It describedGreeces architecture, wars, writing and language , rules and legacies.It is clear that Greece is an important civilization because we know thatthe Greeks invented the alphabet, the Olympics and a lot of other thingsthat are important today.
