Gordon Borrell spent some time on Madison Ave. talking to ad agencies to try and figure out what is going on in the industry. Borrell sees major disruption, particularly at the local level. What's interesting is it isn't by what you may think, it's local media companies. They are bringing their own creative in house, expanding creative teams, and selling a myriad of services. They are selling almost all internet products - paid search, SEO, mobile apps - things that ad agencies should be doing. Another thing Borrell is seeing is a lot of companies bringing their own creative teams in house - like Pandora and Screenvision. This is a big industry - total advertising might be $300 Billion and marketing services is also about $300 Billion and is in major disruption right now. We will be talking about this in the coming months as these local media companies morph into what look like small ad agencies. And what that actually means for ad agencies and how much money is available.
