36. LEARNINGS
Narrow targeting is essential for
awareness
Essential to do more different
campaigns for single
communication for narrow
targeting.
Break down key messages, as its is
easier to communicate and easier
for TG to understand.
Most companies post that initiative
campaigns on similar lines, like
Flipkart, Philips, etc.
NARROW TARGETING + HIGH FREQUENCY = AWARENESS
38. • The Milan subway in Mumbai apparently has a history of flooding during the
Monsoon season.
• So, Aircel when they launched in Mumbai, a mobile company, betting on an
almost sure thing, placed a billboard at the station with a real rescue boat tied to
it, its logo and the tagline “In case of Emergency, cut Rope”.
• On July 15, 2009 the bet paid up and the station was flooded. AIRCEL staff,
wearing tees with the company's logo was on hand to cut the rope and offer
"emergency" transport to the stranded commuters, in full camera view of course.
OVERVIEW ON LAUNCH PLAN – THE BIG IDEA
This is an old case study on how great ideas can give amazing results. It is important for students to understand, that you need to
have a great idea, not huge budgets to make noise and reach your target audience.
56. • The company received quite a bit of "hero" press and was even held up as an example to the
Government agency BMC of how to prepare for an emergency.
• It was almost guaranteed the subway station would flood, leading to stranded and distressed
commuters, who would be willing to get in the boat and be "carried" to safety by men wearing
AIRCEL tees.
• With all the media present, the story could not be reported without the mention of AIRCEL and
the images communicate that the brand cares and is always there for customers, even in times of
emergency.
RESULT
ACHIEVEMENT
• Aircel prominent in all media coverage, which marked the entry of Aircel in Mumbai
• The PR agency prepared a presentation on the same and mailed to friends and also uploaded on
online forums.
• Aircel did not just advertised “Happy to Help” it showed this in their actions….

58. Ariel’s campaign #ShareTheLoad was founded on the burning issue of gender equality,
throwing light on some daily activities that the contemporary professional women are
indulged in. The film drew attentions to the uneven distribution of domestic labor.
OVERVIEW ON THE IDEA
59. THE CAMPAIGN
The first film drew attentions to the uneven distribution of
domestic labor. The film features two seniors acknowledging with
delight the evolving professional scenario of women, while
sharing how her daughter in law earns more than her son as she
is seen working in the background, just when her husband pokes
his head out asking her about not washing his green shirt. The
film ends with a question asking, Is laundry only a woman’s job?
#ShareTheLoad 2015
#ShareTheLoad 2016
Keeping this campaign as the face of the brand, the next
campaign was on similar lines only more progressive
when it portrayed a man’s vision of gender equality.
60. When both these films became a kick-starter to the campaign, the next leg involved communication through digital
platform where #IsLaundryOnlyAWomansJob trended on Twitter, YouTube.
Different types of mass communication channels to broadcast advertisement. In addition to this new channels keep on launching like mobile SMS ads, whatsapp communication, mobile notification, pop – up ads, emailers, gaming, out of home innovations, etc. The clutter of media channels has been increasing with a focus to draw attention of customer towards brand communication.
India has a large broadcasting and distribution industry, comprising approximately 900 satellite TV channels, 6000 Multi-system operators, around 60,000 local cable operators, 7 DTH operators and few IPTV service providers.
India has 114,820 registered publications (newspapers and periodicals), close to 2,500 multiplexes and more than 400 mn Internet users – second largest base after China, and is expected to reach out to 640 mn by 2019.
Govt policies, programs and initiatives
The film features two seniors acknowledging with delight the evolving professional scenario of women, while sharing how her daughter in law earns more than her son as she is seen working in the background, just when her husband pokes his head out asking her about not washing his green shirt. The film ends with a question asking, Is laundry only a woman’s job?
Through a voice-over the father in the film expresses how proud he is of her and apologetic at the same time for not stopping her from playing home-maker as a child to remind her that she should not be the only one handling the domestic chores. He apologizes on the behalf of him and the father of her husband too for always normalizing this scenario for her.
This film too ends with a message that says, “Why is laundry only a mother’s job? And Dads #ShareTheLoad.
