  • Module 1: The local Resource Network and Your Role Welcome the group. Our 2005 National Agreement set forth UBTs as an operating strategy for achieving high performance....vehicle for transforming our organization. Our experience tells us teams need support...they need new skills and knowledge to work together to continuously improve the performance of their work unit...ultimately making KP the leader in healthcare. You are here today as part of a Local Resource Network ..you are one in a team of people that will be a resource to UBTs.

  • KP 1 min Start by describing what a local resource network is and why the facility needs to id a network of resources. Highlight, transferring skills and knowledge to teams....the goal is for teams to be self sufficient Handout: Local resource network documents....Highlight first two pages
  • The skills listed on the slide are some basic skills that are needed among members of the UBT for effective decision making; teamwork and performance improvement Meeting management: the ability to run effective meetings, to make sure time is used wisely, to make sure everyone is heard; that the group is able to achieve what they set out to do in the meeting (achieve desired outcomes). To jointly plan and conduct meetings Faciiliation: To the ability to move things along; directing conversation Comunication: both verbal and written. The abiltiy to listen actively and communicate effectively between individuals and the team Team engagement: to be able to engage all members of the unit in a variety of ways Decision Making...understanding the decision making continuum and range of decision making as partners....Teams need to know how to use the consensus decision making process Performance improvement: Teams need to be skilled in a variety of PI tools....and be able to apply the Rapid Improvement model to identify potential improvements and test them before imprlementing KP Start by asking....What type of skills do members of UBTs need? Take responses from the group... Then show slide Meeting Management, including ground rules, timekeeping, setting agendas, desired outcomes Facilitation: planning, opening, during, closinga meeting Communication : skills for effective communicaiton...how to have two way communication with team members and sponsors Team Engagement: a variety of ways to engage team members Decision making: consensus...understanding the continuum Performance Improvement: RIM, If UBTs need these skills...what is your role?
  • Your job is to help teams aquire these skiills so it becomes a natural part of their work. Your jobisto tach them to fish.... Chinese proverb Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. The goal is help the teams be self sufficient.....so it is just how the teams work together. How you do that may vary... Understanding of LMP Principles Coaching & Mentoring : ability to coach managers and stewards Just-in-time Training: cdm, ibps, RIM, communication Teaching in the moment Facilitation: neutral facilitation concensus, ibps, rim Performance Improvement Methodologies: Rim, 6s, process mapping Consulting (based on own expertise) e.g. Labor might want to consult with team members about labor...(.take off facilitator hat) EAP, Service etc. Review slide
  • The resource network has many skills and talents....not everyone has the same skills and that’s ok...Let’s take a moment to find out what skills and talents are among this network, 20 - 30minutes team resume
