BIODYNAMIC WINES: PIETRAMORE

Biodynamic agriculture is a cultivation method based on an anthroposophic spiritual view of the world, as articulated by the philosopher and esotericist Rudolf Steiner; it is based on respect for the earth's ecosystem, thought of as a living being to be protected for future generations. Here in Pietramore, against a unique backdrop of sea, sky, and mountain, we biodynamically cultivate over 172 acres.
The best terroirs of region as extreme as Abbruzzo tell a story of passion, perseverance, courage, and purity.
We believe that wine is an expression of the earth’s artistry and we are committed to creating products with style that leave lasting imprints, like our people.
Our Montepulciano, Pecorino, Passerina and Trebbiano wines are born of this extreme philosophy: complicated to produce, but year after year giving us products that excite us and set themselves apart from the pack to trace a new style, not merely about drinking but also living.
There are places that have always existed but no one has seen.
There are ancient stories that are simply true, but no one listened.
At Antica Tenuta Pietramore we shine light where there was darkness; we tell a story that has already been written in the earth, and we limit ourselves to preserving and conserving the powerful life energies that precious nature has given us.
We create dreams by listening to the breath sounds of the organic soil and the stars; we make drinking styles that are elegant and authentically full of life.
We’re waiting for you.

BIODYNAMIC WINES: PIETRAMORE

  2. 2. BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE Biodynamic agriculture is a cultivation method based on an anthroposophic spiritual view of the world, as articulated by the philosopher and esotericist Rudolf Steiner; it is based on respect for the earth's ecosystem, thought of as a living being to be protected for future generations. Through biodynamics, agriculture is in tune with nature, the earth, and human beings. Fertilization, cultivation, and animal husbandry are accomplished in ways that respect and promote the vitality and fertility of the land as well as the special characteristics of the plant and animal species. Biodynamic farming’s deep connection with nature and complete respect for its rhythms mean that no synthetic mineral fertilizers and chemical pesticides are used, and that the land is managed according to cosmic and lunar cycles.
  3. 3. BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE The biodynamic method means that the fertility and vitality of the land must be attained by natural means: solid farmyard manure compost production, fertilizer from plant material, crop rotation, mechanical pest control, and mineral and vegetable-based pesticides. The "dynamic" component of biodynamic highlights the fact that earth’s forces influence plant growth. As Wolfgang Schaumann said: "The earth is immersed in the planetary spheres of our solar system and planetary forces influence, for example, plant morphology."
  4. 4. BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE Biodynamic farmers use their knowledge in practical ways, choosing when to sow and to plant and to use various techniques of cultivation and harvest according to active cosmic forces at that moment (within the limits allowed by climatic conditions). These cosmic effects were studied by, among others, Maria Thun and Dr. Hartmut Spiess (the latter at the Biodynamic Research Institute in Germany). The biodynamic sowing calendar currently used by all the world’s biodynamic farmers is a result of the work of Maria Thun and her collaborators. Likewise, the planets influence metals, rocks, plants, animals and people (the so-called astral influences, whose name comes from the Greek "aster," meaning "star").
