  2. 2. IMAGES OUT OF THE ORDINARYABOUT THESE IMAGESEACH YEAR IN OCTOBER, A SLEEPY LITTLE VILLAGE IN WEST SUSSEX BECOMES THE UK’S UNOFFICIALPUMPKIN CAPITAL. SLINDON, NEAR CHICHESTER IS KNOWN FOR THREE THINGS: IT WAS WHERE BODY SHOPFOUNDER, ANITA RODDICK MADE HER HOME, IT’S WHERE SOME BELIEVE THE GAME OF CRICKET WASINVENTED AND IT’S WHERE THE UPTON FAMILY GROW PUMPKINS AND CREATE AN ANNUAL ARTWORK WITHTHEM AT ‘PUMPKIN C0TTAGE.’ THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME I’D SHOT THE FESTIVAL SO THE CHALLENGE FOR MEWAS DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO WHAT I’D DONE PREVIOUSLY. WHEN I ARRIVED AND MET UP WITHROBIN UPTON, WHO SHOWED ME SO MANY DIFFERENT VARIETIES, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT I NEEDED TOFOCUS ON THE INDIVIDUAL PUMPKINS AS MUCH AS THE TABLEAUX. INDEED, THE MORE YOU LOOKED AT THEFRUIT, THE MORE LIKE HAND PAINTED ARTWORKS THEY APPEARED. I LOVE THAT UNUSUAL TRADITIONS LIKETHIS STILL EXIST AND JUDGING BY HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE, I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE. EVEN THOUGH IHAVE TO SAY THIS YEAR’S DESIGN WAS A LITTLE UNINSPIRED, I THINK IT PHOTOGRAPHS REALLY WELL.
