What are the Regents anyway? <ul><li>What is the structure of the exam? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>There are 4 parts (A,B,C,D) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Made up of multiple choice and constructed response questions </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Part D has questions about the 4 state labs </li></ul></ul><ul><li>What does the test taking actually look like? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>3 hour exam </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Taken in homerooms </li></ul></ul>

What are the Regents anyway? <ul><li>Knowledge of Biology </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Taken from 7 th and 8 th grade topics </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>We review all of it before the test </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Application </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The students will be asked to apply what they know, not just repeat what they know. </li></ul></ul>
  6. 6. Qualifying for the Regents <ul><li>Passing Science for the 3 Marking Periods </li></ul><ul><li>Meeting the lab requirement </li></ul><ul><ul><li>30 lab hours by June 1st </li></ul></ul>
  7. 7. What happens on the day of the Regents? <ul><li>Regents in the afternoon </li></ul><ul><li>Starts at 1:15 </li></ul><ul><li>Floating </li></ul><ul><li>The science teachers will be floating around all the classrooms answering any questions as students are taking the test. </li></ul>
  8. 8. What happens after the Regents? <ul><li>Teachers work to score the exams </li></ul><ul><li>We’ll talk to any students who did not pass to discuss options </li></ul><ul><li>Regents score forms 4 th quarter grade </li></ul>

How will the students be prepared? <ul><li>Content throughout the year in an engaging, hands-on manner </li></ul><ul><li>Practice questions on-going throughout the year </li></ul><ul><li>Review starting around June 1 st </li></ul><ul><li>Helping periods </li></ul><ul><li>After-school sessions </li></ul>
  10. 10. How can you help your students prepare? <ul><li>Getting a review book </li></ul><ul><li>Barron’s Review (red and blue) </li></ul><ul><li>Practicing frequently and in small doses </li></ul><ul><li>Having your child come in during helping periods or after school </li></ul>
