“National email benchmarking report 2011 once again provides tremendous insight into the
current trends of the UK’s email marketing landscape. This report highlights the massive
contribution the email channel is making to the bottom line in these difficult economic
conditions.

The decrease in marketing budgets overall has been to the advantage of email, arguably the
most accountable of all the channels and definitely the most efficient driver of revenue.

Email is once again proving its value as the marketing work horse. The efficiencies can clearly be
seen because email volumes have continued to grow with figures at the end of 2011 almost
twice what they were in the same period in 2010.

Since conversion rates from email are 60% higher than search, it is no surprise to observe that
brands are increasingly relying on email to drive traffic to their websites.”

              “National Client Email Report 2012”, by DMA
 The strategic value of email marketing increased in 2011, with over 90% of respondents rating
it as strategically important or very important to their business.
 Email marketing accounted for 10% or less of the marketing budget in almost half of
businesses surveyed, but still claimed a slightly greater proportion of budgets than in 2010. 63%
expect to increase expenditure on email marketing in the future.
 Email marketing is rated as by far the best marketing tactic for both ROI and for developing
enduring and profitable customer relationships.
 This positive outlook pervades every aspect of the study and report. For example, marketers
expressed far fewer email marketing concerns than in previous years.
 The share of revenue generated by email marketing exceeds its share of budget, even
ignoring the considerable indirect and long-term responses to campaigns.
Indeed, compared to previous years, email marketers are far more positive about social
media/networks as a complementary channel to email, particular its role in building
relationships.
Internal resources are the biggest barrier to success: most businesses have less than one staff
hour a day allocated to email marketing. Skills are not necessarily a major constraint, with 70%
of marketers at least familiar with the essentials of the marketing discipline.

Internet: 95% of Italians are connected every day, 64% for more than
three and a half hours a day.
Email: every time people connect to Internet they read their emails.
Personalized content: 65% of those who perceive the email as spam
delete the message without even reading it.
The sender is important: nearly half of the users on the web do not
open emails that come from an unconvincing sender.
88% of emails sent to company mailbox is read: people like messages
concerning the professional field, as to emphasize (again) that readers
appreciate all the content they perceive as relevant.

                          Email and social networks
Email is anything but old fashioned - Despite the boom of social
networks, the social network messaging can not replace the email as it
keeps characteristics including, first and foremost, privacy and security.
79% of respondents prefer to receive commercial offers via email
42% of users prefer to be contacted for the first time by a company
via email.


    In the future it will be interesting to observe the development of
  synergies between email and social networks. Even today, about a
   third of users happen to subscribe to the newsletter via Facebook

EMAIL MARKETING “National Client Email Report 2012”, by DMA  The strategic value of email marketing increased in 2011, with over 90% of respondents rating it as strategically important or very important to their business.  Email marketing accounted for 10% or less of the marketing budget in almost half of businesses surveyed, but still claimed a slightly greater proportion of budgets than in 2010. 63% expect to increase expenditure on email marketing in the future.  Email marketing is rated as by far the best marketing tactic for both ROI and for developing enduring and profitable customer relationships.  This positive outlook pervades every aspect of the study and report. For example, marketers expressed far fewer email marketing concerns than in previous years.  The share of revenue generated by email marketing exceeds its share of budget, even ignoring the considerable indirect and long-term responses to campaigns. Indeed, compared to previous years, email marketers are far more positive about social media/networks as a complementary channel to email, particular its role in building relationships. Internal resources are the biggest barrier to success: most businesses have less than one staff hour a day allocated to email marketing.
