  3. 3. Interviewers’ Orientation <ul><li>There are three evenings provided </li></ul><ul><li>Starting at 6:00 PM </li></ul><ul><li>Newton High School Library </li></ul><ul><li>Portfolios will be available </li></ul>Monday, Feb 23 Tuesday, Feb 24 Tuesday, March 2

Preview the Portfolios <ul><li>Come almost anytime </li></ul><ul><li>Portfolios will be on display here at the high school each day between now and the interviews, </li></ul><ul><li>8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. </li></ul><ul><li>They will also be available during the orientation sessions </li></ul><ul><li>Monday, Feb 23 </li></ul><ul><li>Tuesday, Feb 24 </li></ul><ul><li>Tuesday, March 2 </li></ul><ul><li>Come early on the day of the interviews </li></ul><ul><li>to look through the portfolios before the </li></ul><ul><li>interviews begin. </li></ul><ul><li>Make an appointment by calling </li></ul><ul><li>284-6280 x2624 </li></ul>
  5. 5. Portfolio Order <ul><li>Use one of the check lists provided for each portfolio you preview. </li></ul><ul><li>The order of the contents should be the same as the checklist. </li></ul><ul><li>Make notes of questions that come to mind while you look at the portfolio. </li></ul>
  6. 6. The evening of the interviews... <ul><li>Park on the west side. </li></ul><ul><li>Please arrive 15 (or so) minutes early. </li></ul><ul><li>Check in at the registration table to get name tag and room assignment. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Check in with the hostess stationed in the classroom area. She will help find your rooms and answer questions. </li></ul><ul><li>Needed materials, including the portfolios and the student evaluation forms, will be in the interview room. </li></ul>

What to Expect <ul><li>Students should: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Be on time </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Be dressed nicely </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>No jeans </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>No shorts </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>No tennis shoes </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Girls, no low fronts </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>No “face” jewelry </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>No chewing gum </li></ul></ul>

Other questions might come to mind that are similar. </li></ul><ul><li>Questions should be school and activity related for the most part. </li></ul><ul><li>The student’s portfolio might generate some questions for you. </li></ul><ul><li>Respect the student’s privacy. </li></ul>

Do Not Worry... <ul><li>about whether the student has all academic requirements met. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The office staff would have counseled the student before now if they were missing credits </li></ul></ul><ul><li>about whether the student has the required number of service learning hours met. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The number of required hours is dependent on how long the student has been at Newton High School. It will vary. </li></ul></ul>
  12. 12. If The Student Does Not Do Well... <ul><li>If you feel that a student did not do well enough in the interview process to pass, put that on the evaluation sheet. A second chance will be given to the student after significant counseling and opportunity to improve is given. </li></ul>
