Overview for Basketball Unit <ul><li>The overall unit will be 20 lessons. </li></ul><ul><li>The students will divided into teams. </li></ul><ul><li>The teams will practice for 3 lessons to develop team chemistry. </li></ul><ul><li>Preseason starts on lesson 4,5,6, and 7 . students will play preseason games. </li></ul><ul><li>Lesson 8-15 will be the regular season. </li></ul><ul><li>Lesson 19 will be the championship game . The two teams with the best records will play in a championship game. </li></ul><ul><li>Lesson 20 will be an awards show. </li></ul><ul><li>Parents are welcome to come and support their kids on lesson 19 and 20 . </li></ul>

  4. 4. Teachers Role <ul><li>The teachers role for this unit is to make sure that the students understand the concept of sport education. Sport education allows the students to participate in a recreational league during their PE class. It is my job to teach the students about the different roles in this unit. The roles are: Coach, Captain, Equipment Manager, Statistician, player, and official. Each role is important in this unit. By the end of the unit the student will be running the league by themselves. </li></ul><ul><li>My goal is that the students are able to solve their own problems and take on the different leadership roles that I listed earlier. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Role of Parent <ul><li>The role of the parents is to support your kids during the final 2 lessons. </li></ul><ul><li>All kids will be doing something during the championship game. </li></ul><ul><li>PLEASE COME TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AND AWARDS SHOW! </li></ul>
  6. 6. Role of Student <ul><li>The role of the student is to be a team player and try and learn all of the positions. </li></ul><ul><li>Most important HAVE FUN! </li></ul>
  7. 7. Benefits of Unit <ul><li>Students learn leadership skills. </li></ul><ul><li>Students learn how to work as a team. </li></ul><ul><li>Students try different strategies during a game. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Objectives for the Unit <ul><li>Students will be Competent, literate, and enthusiastic sports people. </li></ul><ul><li>Students will be able to perform all of the roles listed. (Coach, Captain, Equipment Manager, Statistician, player, and official) </li></ul>
  9. 9. Project based learning <ul><li>Students will be performing each of the roles listed in the slide before. </li></ul><ul><li>This hands on approach will allow the students to learn all of the roles faster. </li></ul>
