Building Successful PartnershipsThe activities are designed to:• Increase social, civic and economic participation through provision of skills and supportleading to improved connection to community;• Improve community interest and capacity to own & respond to early childhood issues, andissues that relate to families and communities;• Community members, its facilities and institutions work together to improve early childhoodand children’s health, development and well-beingProgram OverviewThe Community and Business Coordination Forum Activity has been developed tocoordinate and capacity build community organisations and businesses to more effectivelywork in partnership and use available time, talent and dollars towards the sustainability ofactivities and other community services.On the 15th June a half day Community and Business Partnership Forum will be run forcommunity organisations and businesses.   3. 3. FacilitatorGerard Byrne, Volunteering North QueenslandGerard has had extensive experience in business development in awide range of organisations in Australia over the last 25 years. Hehas completed post graduate studies in Business and Managementat the University of Queensland, Griffith University, and RMIT.Gerard’s achievements have been recognised by being awarded Fellow, CPA Australia, andFellow, Australian Institute of Management. Nationally, he has served on the CPA AustraliaCentre of Excellence, Canberra, and served on numerous professional development,academic, and business committees and advisory bodies at local, state, and national levels inAustralia.As Chair of the North Queensland Tourism Awards for three years, he has actively promotedthe development of the Tourism Industry in North Queensland. Gerard’s community workincludes being a volunteer with Volunteering North Queensland, assisting community groupsgrow and access Government funding. He is in demand as a speaker nationally on businessand leadership topics.Keynote SpeakersAndrew Hamilton, Social Ventures AustraliaAndrew’s SVA responsibilities include portfolio management andcorporate and investor support in Queensland. He has been with SVAsince 2006, when it initiated the first Social Enterprise Hub in Australiain Brisbane. Andrew holds a BComm and MBA and has specialised insales and marketing roles. These roles include senior managementpositions in the financial services and technology sectors for small entrepreneurial firms inBrisbane. He has served on the boards of Foresters Community Finance and JabiruCommunity Youth and Children’s Services Association.   4. 4. Brian Arnold, North Queensland Small BusinessDevelopment CentreBrian Arnold is the CEO of the North Queensland Small BusinessDevelopment Centre and has been in the role for 3 years. The NQSBDCis social enterprise that operates a Business Enterprise Centre (BEC)and a business Incubator. The incubator has around 15% Indigenousbusiness and maintains a very high occupancy rate. The Centreprovides mentoring to Mungalla Station, a social enterprise that run a cattle property andtourist attraction owned by the Nywaigi people and provides business developmentassistance to the people of Palm Island. In addition, the Centre manages a number of otherleading edge projects including “Little Silicon Valley” an ICT incubator.
