  3. 3. <ul><li>Over 10% plus unemployment; 17% plus unemployment for minority groups </li></ul><ul><li>War ending and troops returning </li></ul><ul><li>Dissatisfaction with political structure </li></ul><ul><li>Protests in the streets </li></ul><ul><li>American Art Therapy Association is founded. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>The term “art therapy” is widely known and considered to be positive. </li></ul><ul><li>Masters and above level art therapy degrees with national credentials have national portability. </li></ul><ul><li>The industry segments of community & social services, education, health care are three of the most promising sectors for growth for the next 7 years </li></ul><ul><li>The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ( PPACA ) Health Care Reform Act means more health services will be available to more people. </li></ul><ul><li>“ Health care support personnel” is identified as one of the highest growth fields with an expansion rate of 28.8% over the next 7 years. </li></ul>
  5. 6. What is the American Art Therapy Association’s role? How do you take advantage of the opportunities for art therapists?
  6. 7. Grow a diverse, professional network of art therapists and other health care professionals worldwide with a shared knowledge of the effectiveness of art therapy as a healing profession. Build a well-known art therapy professional identity through which: art therapists are recognized and respected as effective health care professionals; art therapy is known as an effective research-based healing art; and art therapy is recognized as a health necessity. Positively influence the ability of art therapists to build a rewarding career through outstanding education, research, career development, and networking opportunities.
  7. 8. <ul><li>Expand careers in art therapy by promoting credentialed art therapists within the member’s top practice settings. </li></ul><ul><li>Promote art therapy through nationally known and respected organizations that serve to “endorse” and promote art therapy within their area of influence. </li></ul><ul><li>Attract recognition from potential employers, media, funders, governmental and other key decision-makers. </li></ul><ul><li>Connect employers to art therapists through the Find an Art Therapist, the Partner Tool Kits and the Central Job Board to find jobs and students internships. </li></ul>
