13. 14. Rationale Questions A

I considered several aspects such as simplicity / technicality , environmental , storage , materials , and the modern world in today’s society. Firstly my product has been based around simplicity, as proven by the simple sliding lid, large, easily accessible hand holes and the simplicity of construction. (Eg. Lid rails, container insert, etc.) I’ve used Pine wood as an environmentally friendly material so that reproduction of the package can be reproduced several times. Storage has been a big part of the considerations for the package. As shown on the 3D Mock-up layout (p6) it can be assembled /re-assembled. The container can be removed from a hole made to fit on the top piece of wood, and as shown in the 3D layout the box it lays in can be assembled/ re-assembled as shown. This uniquely makes it not only easy to be stored, but perfect for a gift. Another consideration I made was of the materials used for the package. First of all I needed a material that fish could survive in. Another benefit of this material (rubber) is that when the container is full of water it droop/sinks to the bottom of the container, creating more freedom and room for the fish. Perspex has also been used instead of glass for safety reasons. One of the last considerations I had to make for the package was so that it benefits to the modern world by being great in terms of simplicity, decoration and presentation .I believe I have covered those key, modern lifestyle requirements.

 14. 15. Rationale Questions B

The materials I used were pine wood for the base sides of the package and lid rails (2cm in thickness) and the same type of wood for the top piece (5mm in thickness) .I used this material as it was a solid/safe base for the container insert and is environmentally friendly.

For the container insert (the fish carrier) I’ve used the WILTSHIRE bend ‘n’ bake cooking container . As the material is very flexi (rubber), it droops when water is poured in, therefore giving more overall area for the fish. This material is also very tough and user friendly (can’t be broken with ease).

And finally I’ve used Perspex as the lid. Perspex was a replacement for glass as it was tougher and more resistant to braking. It was also an easier material to work with and simply slides over the entire base using rails made out of environmentally friendly Pine. Covering the entire base gives it a classier/modern look and includes itself in more with decorative regulations in modern lifestyle.

 15. 16. Rationale Questions C In order to test my package, I’ve used several methods and completed several tests. The first test I completed was filling the rubber container full with water and tested the strength of the superglue I used to attach the container to the base. It was a success 3 times in a row. The second test I used was having the trouble of the lid covering the whole base, I filled the container with water and tipped it sideways, as well as upside down. This was not a success. Changes had to be made to lower the lid and rails. I retried and was successful. the lid continuously to see if the lid was movable. It too was unsuccessful and holes had to be redrilled either end to ensure more/easier movement in the lid. In progression of the process I’ve ensured that when come in perfectly measured pieces it’s very easy to construct and therefore covers the confusion for marketing this item. The last test that occurred was sliding
 16. 17. Rationale Questions D

I had recently travelled up to Surfers Paradise and had been inspired by their modern lifestyle. It was simple and innovative, and this brought on the idea of simplicity. I had soon after realised that life was peaceful, beautiful and ‘simple’ for a fish .Fish/fishing have never been an important part of my life. But due to a fishing experience up at Surfers Paradise, I realised that I needed a modern life styled, peaceful, and most importantly, innovative and simple package for none other then a peaceful creature, the fish. The idea of travelling to Surfers Paradise gave me the idea for the name, SIMPLE -INNOVATIVE- TRANSPORT . And most importantly, the name, was ‘simple’.
