Online safety tips

  1. 1. ONLINE SAFETY TIPS
  2. 2. RULES FOR ONLINE SAFETY • Personal information is private • Protect your passwords • Cyber Bullying is not ok • Scams, ads, and spam • Online friend safety
  3. 3. DO NOT SHARE PERSONAL INFO • Never give out personal information that can be used to identify you. • Things such as name, address, school name, birth date, phone number, etc. • Never post pictures of yourself. • Always always always ask a parent or guardian if it is ok to share your personal information.
  4. 4. PROTECT YOUR PASSWORDS • Just like your personal information, your passwords should never be given out to anyone but a parent or guardian. Not even to someone you like or your best friend. • No one should ever ask you for your password. • When you use a public computer make sure you log out of all the accounts you used, and never save passwords or logins.
  5. 5. CYBER BULLYING IS NOT OK • Just like bullying in person, online bullying is hurtful and is never ok. • Don’t send insulting messages to someone because online they don’t know if you’re joking or being hurtful. • If someone makes you feel uncomfortable tell an adult. • Remember that nothing on the internet is private and you can never completely erase it. That includes email. Think before you act and when in doubt, ask an adult.
  6. 6. SCAMS AND ADS • Rule #1 of advertisements is that if its too good to be true, it probably is. • Be careful when offered something for nothing. Never click on these ads, they are designed to steal your personal information and infect your computer with viruses. • Don’t buy anything online without your parents permission. • Ask your parents before installing/downloading any software as it may too be infected with viruses.
  7. 7. ONLINE FRIENDS • Meeting people on the internet can be exciting. However, it is easy to hide who you are on the internet. Thirteen year old Addy could actually be an older adult pretending to be younger. • Never give out personal information to online friends, and only agree to meet with them if your parents say its ok. • Never meet new online friends without your parents present.
  8. 8. REMEMBER! When in doubt, always ask a parent or guardian!
