He had a suggestion for the council once he is retired to take a tour of the whole church and make a list of things that need attention and things to get done so that we can “spruce” up the church before interviewing for a new Pastor at Zion.COMMITTEE REPORTS: a. Worship/Music: Kathy reported that Tom Salzman from Appleton tuned the organ and Mr. Krueger from Clintonville tuned both pianos, which saved the church money compared to what they paid Fabry, Inc. in the past and our organist is pleased with the results. All the robes have been cleaned for the upcoming Easter celebration and look beautiful. b. Health Ministry: Ginny announced that Lenten Devotional Booklets have been picked up by members. 21 Prayer Care Packages were shipped to Zion’s college students and they have received thank yous from many of them. Their committee contributed a bag loaded with an assortment of balls titled “Have a ball staying fit & active” for the “Helping Hands Project”. They served the Lenten Soup Supper on Ash Wednesday and have been busy scheduling the Need a Lift rides for members of our church. Cellcom has again sponsored Zion’s Relay for Life Team that will be held March 31st with 16 walkers participating at Shawano High School from 9:00am until 2:00pm. Nancy Schultz has asked if we could purchase 2 or 3 new fans for the fellowship hall to help with exercise class and also for events in the fellowship hall and kitchen. Kathy Bruhn made the motion which was seconded by Mikki Moesch to purchase new fans for the fellowship hall. Christy Hay attended a Community AODA Summit at 1st Presbyterian Church and she received a lot of information that she’s bringing back to their committee for future projects. The Parish Nurse interviews were completed with 3 people from the Personnel Committee and 3 from the Health Ministry committee participating and their unanimous decision was Georgia Stapleton. Georgia has had Parish Nurse training through Marquette University 10 years ago, has recently retired and lives 3 blocks from Zion Church. Jim Zimmerman moved that we hire Georgia Stapleton as the new Parish Nurse with a review after a 90 day probationary period. Gordon Holten seconded the motion and the motion carried. Lastly, the Prayer Chain has been very, very active. c. Staff Support: Jim Ash reported that he was at the church today but the only person that was present was Debbie Bernard and he talked with her regarding the computer situation. He also had the chance to visit with John Phalen last week. d. Church in Society: Mikki stated their committee last met on March 6th and at that time the total they had taken in from their “Helping Hands Project” for the Randy and Ann Steffen family was $2,194. They have started dispersing a portion of those funds to the Steffen family by means of a $500 Kwik Trip gas card and a $500 check made directly to them. They are also working with the WIC Office on a project called “Cuddle With Love”
  2. 2. 2 which is supplying diapers to families in need. The WIC Office will hand out diapers on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month and recipients will have to meet requirements through their office. Their committee has around $750 that they will use to purchase diapers and put Zion’s name on along with a Bible verse which will then be given to the WIC Office for them to make the dispersals. Their committee is also investigating the possibility of participating in the Community Dinner which is held once a month at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Shawano. As usual, they will be providing their monthly meal for Safe Haven. e. Stewardship: Jim Zimmerman had nothing to report. f. Property: Keith was unable to attend but Scott reported that there was a water pipe leak downstairs next to the soda machine which has since been repaired. Pre-Confirmation Education: Timothy reported they have 12 students attending the Crossways Camp this coming weekend and all the 8th graders will be attending the Confirmation Camp this summer. They are close to obtaining all the teachers needed for next year’s Sunday School. With the increase in enrollment they will probably require one of the classrooms that the pre-school is currently using.6. TREASURER’S REPORT: Gordon read the financial update that will be printed in the Focus stating Zion’s General Fund ended the month about where it began, with a balance of $4,475.70. He then reviewed the Accounting Fund Balances Report explaining the income and expenses as listed. A motion was made by Ginny Vraney and seconded by Renee` Elertson to approve the Treasurer’s Report as written, motion carried. Renee` then reviewed the bills to be paid, noting the $120 to Krueger’s Piano Clinic for the tuning of 2 pianos and $287 to Salzman Pipe Organ Service for the organ tuning as Kathy explained earlier. OLD BUSINESS: Gordon reviewed the quotes received from Computer Haus in Shawano and Camera Corner Connecting Point in Green Bay regarding the computer system upgrade discussed at last month’s meeting. Debbie Bernard did the research and advised since the quotes were comparable to go with Camera Corner Connecting Point as they offer a 3 year warranty. Jim Ash moved we approve the upgrading of Zion’s computer system up to $4,500 with Camera Corner Connecting Point of Green Bay. Ginny Vraney seconded the motion and the motion carried. Lastly, Gordon mentioned he has received input from members and will continue to ask for more from each committee regarding the updating of Zion’s website as he works with Keith Milner and Mason Moesch.8. NEW BUSINESS: Scott mentioned that all council members should have received information regarding the East Central Synod of Wisconsin Assembly being held June 1st and 2nd . In the past Pastor Sherven has attended along with 2 lay delegates. Debbie was contacted by Mortell Studios advising that if we want additional directories we have to order in increments of 20 at $20 apiece by the end of March otherwise the price goes up after that. After a discussion, it was agreed to not order any additional directories. MEETING ADJOURNED at 7:50 pm.
