  2. 2. Introduction • George Argyros Jr. is the president and founder of Elite Financial Group, LLC, an investment firm in Newport Beach, California. He has years of experience in life insurance, real estate, and general investing. In addition to his work, George Argyros Jr. is a dedicated philanthropist. Operation Smile, an organization that helps children born with cleft palates or cleft lips, is one of the organizations he has supported. Operation Smile was founded in 1982 by Dr. William P. Magee, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen. At the time, Dr. Magee worked as a plastic surgeon and Kathy Magee was a nurse and clinical social worker. They traveled to the Philippines together as part of a medical mission to fix children's cleft palates and cleft lips.
  3. 3. Operation Smile • Upon arriving in Naga City, the Magees learned that more than 300 children needed cleft lip/palate surgery, but their team only had the resources to help 40 kids. The couple immediately began preparing for another trip to Naga City, gathering surgical equipment donations and running fundraisers to teach the public about their cause. As a result of their efforts, the Magees were able to create their own team of surgeons and volunteers who had the resources and skill to assist 100 patients in the Philippines during their first mission trip. This was only the start of their efforts, and now Operation Smile helps children with cleft lips and palates throughout the world.
