3. 3. A triangle is a polygon with three edges and three vertices. It is one of the basic shapes in geometry.
4. 4. BASIC PROPORTIONALITY THEOREM • Basic Proportionality Theorem states that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other 2 points , the other 2 sides are divided in the same ratio. • It was discovered by Thales , so also known as Thales theorem.

14. 14. • If a perpendicular is drawn from the vertex of the right angle of a right triangle to the hypotenuse then triangles on both sides of the perpendicular are similar to the whole triangle and to each other • In a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. • In a right triangle if a and b are the lengths of the legs and c is the length of hypotenuse, then a² + b² = c². • It states Hypotenuse² = Base² + Altitude². • A scientist named Pythagoras discovered the theorem, hence came to be known as Pythagoras Theorem. 19. 19. • Two figures having the same shape but not necessarily the same size are called similar figures. • All the congruent figures are similar but the converse is not true. • Two polygons of the same number of sides are similar, if (i) their corresponding angles are equal and (ii) their corresponding sides are in the same ratio (i.e., proportion). • If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, then the other two sides are divided in the same ratio. • If a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, then the line is parallel to the third side.
