About Gandhi <ul><li>His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. </li></ul><ul><li>He was born on 2 nd October 1869 in Porbandar . </li></ul><ul><li>He showed the world that social and political changes can be achieved not only through violence and terror ,but also through love and compassion. </li></ul><ul><li>He was already a legend ,when he was assassination. </li></ul>

YOUNG GANDHI <ul><li>He was born in 1869 at kathiawar in the </li></ul><ul><li>modern state of Gujrat as the youngest of </li></ul><ul><li>The three sons of Karamchand Gandhi. </li></ul><ul><li>He attended the primary school In Rajkot </li></ul><ul><li>where his father was prime minister. </li></ul>

About his family <ul><li>His father, Karamchand Gandhi(1822-1885)who belonged to the Hindu Modth Community. </li></ul><ul><li>His Grandfather was Uttamchand Gandhi fondly called Utta Gandhi. </li></ul><ul><li>His mother Putlibai ,who came from the Hindu pranami vaishnava community .she was karamchand’s 4 th wife,the first three wives having apperantly died in childbirth. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1883 ,he was married with 14 th year old kasturbai ,when he was 13 year old. </li></ul>

His Studies <ul><li>He studied law at university college in London & become barrister,a lawyer. </li></ul><ul><li>He tried successfully to practice law in India , then he went to South Africa to work for a British firm. </li></ul><ul><li>As a member of a higher caste , he had always been treated with respect in India but in South Africa they looked at his dark skin and treated him as an inferior. </li></ul>

Civil Rights Movement in South Africa (1893-1914) <ul><li>In South Africa , Gandhi faced the discrimination directed </li></ul><ul><li>at Indians. </li></ul><ul><li>He was thorn off at pietermaritzburg after refusing to move from the first class to a third class – coach while holding a valid first class ticked. </li></ul><ul><li>Gandhi extended his original period of stay in South Africa to assist Indians in opposing a bill to deny them the right of vote. </li></ul>
