  2. 2. Starting at the original Calum’s Road on Raasay and riding to the new Calum’s Road in The Gambia
  3. 3. Calums Road Raasay <ul><li>For 20 years, Calum MacLeod toiled alone to build a road to his croft on the island of Raasay, near Skye in Western Scotland. He began the arduous job in the 1960s after failing to win public funds for an upgrade. His exploits featured in the press, on radio, television, and in the best-selling 2006 book Calum’s Road by Roger Hutchison. </li></ul>

The Plan <ul><li>20 riders and 20 motorbikes. </li></ul><ul><li>8 th January 2010 - Setting off from Calum’s Road on Raasay and riding through Scotland, England, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal and arriving four weeks later at the site of Calum's Road in The Gambia. </li></ul><ul><li>Ship the bikes back to the UK in a container and fly ourselves back. </li></ul><ul><li>Much detail and paperwork still to be done. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Me and my bike <ul><li>Riding since 2000 </li></ul><ul><li>After brief stint on an imported Honda 750 Customer moved onto a Suzuki Bandit 600S before buying a BMW 1150GS in June 2005 </li></ul><ul><li>60,000+ miles later and still cannot get enough of riding her! </li></ul>

Why? <ul><li>To help people less fortunate than me gain access to essential services that I take for granted...the ability to go to the shops, visit the doctor and go to school in safety regardless of time of year </li></ul><ul><li>Because it will be exciting, challenging and great fun! </li></ul>
  10. 10. How? <ul><li>Each rider has committed to raise a minimum of £2,000 </li></ul><ul><li>We will each fund the cost of the trip ourselves so every pound raised goes to building the new Calums Road. </li></ul><ul><li>Corporate and personal sponsorship. </li></ul>
