2. Advertising When you go into a store, do you know what you want to buy? Do you like to wear certain types of clothes? Do you eat at one restaurant, but not another? Advertising is how people let us know about what they make, do or sell.
3. What is an ad? An advertisement is how companies get people to remember their name. When you go to a store, they want you to think of their product first. If we have never heard of a company, how could we buy their product?
4. How do they work? Most ads use exciting pictures or maybe a famous athlete or movie star. They try to make their product look better than other products. They want us to feel like we have to have their product.
5. Why are there ads? Companies use ads because they want us to buy their product. They want us to go into a store and ask for their product. They must compete with other companies for our money.
6. What does it say? Look at this ad. What does this ad tell you? What are they selling?

8. Now it's your turn! Pretend that you own a business in the town that you created yesterday. What would you sell and who would buy it? How would you get people to remember your company’s name? What would your ads look like?
