Iconix Brand Group Lays Out $45 Million in IPHU Deal
 Understanding the strategies needed to
improve company growth and efficiency, Gary
D. Herwitz continues to provide his
recommendations for both acquisitions and
merger transactions for mid-cap companies.
Working as a managing partner at CoMetrics,
LLC, Gary Herwitz recently served as a financial
consultant for Marc Ecko Enterprises (MEE).
According to a May 24, 2013, press release, the
Iconix Brand Group acquired the remaining
interest in IP Holdings Unlimited (IPHU) for $45
million.
 IPHU is the owner of the trademarks for
Marc Ecko Cut & Sew and Ecko Unltd. Marc
Ecko Enterprises is the primary licensee for
the two brands. The transaction resulted in
the Iconix Brand Group paying the
impressive amount for a 49 percent share in
IPHU. Both the Iconix Brand Group and MEE
look forward to working together and
expanding the MEE licensed brands.
 According to the press release, the Ecko
Unltd. brand is popular across the globe at
more than 5,000 retailers. Marc Ecko Cut &
Sew is equally popular in the youth market
and regularly appears in major retailers like
Dillard's and Macy's. The Iconix Brand
Group places an emphasis on expanding
high-end clothing lines directed at the
youth marketplace. Besides the two
acquired Ecko trade names, the group
owns licenses to such well-known brands as
London Fog and Mossimo.
