  2. 2. The eruption of mount St. Helens<br />The eruption of this mountain led to a very devastating effect. 100’s of miles were destroyed by the lava and ash that’s why this is a remember able moment.<br />
  3. 3. U.S beats Russia in Olympic hockey game.<br />Happy moment for the united states because the soviet union disliked us so the nation was proud the day we beat them.<br />
  4. 4. Death of john lennon<br />Very sad moment for the nation because one of the greatest inspiring musicians has been killed by a crazed fan and people could not believe that it happened.<br />
  5. 5. Sandra day O’Connor<br />First female member of the supreme court of the united states. The woman felt proud and so she should have because she tried hard to achieve what she did.<br />
  6. 6. MTV<br />Big music station. Popular in teens and young adults. People liked this television station when it aired. Brought music to the world of television.<br />
  7. 7. Iran-Contra Affair<br />Was a political scandal, we would do arms deals that would eventually help our people that were captured but not only them but the united states alone.<br />
  8. 8. Assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan<br />Shocked the nation people though it was going to be JFK all over again. People were really upset because a lot of people liked Ronald Reagan. That’s all people just wanted their president to be safe.<br />
  9. 9. “Thriller”<br />One of the most popular videos of all time and the most popular in the 80’s. Was a combination of a music video and a movie trailer. People were shocked by Michael Jackson he was a great performer one of the best of all time.<br />
  10. 10. Liposuction<br />People would get fat surgically removed from their bodies to try to become slimmer quicker and faster. People saw this as a easy way to get skinny.<br />
  11. 11. Cocaine<br />One of the most popular drugs in the world at this time and was the most popular in the 80’s. It sometimes gives a numbing effect, people thought to little of this until people started dying.<br />
  12. 12. South Korea Flight 007<br />Plane shot down for entering soviet union territory so they shot the plane down without hesitation and no radio calls were made for either side so they both had no idea what was going on.<br />
  13. 13. Sally Ride<br />First women in space. She was on the challenger and is a former NASA astronaut. She will always be remembered for her bravery and courage.<br />
  14. 14. Beirut terrorist attack<br />Some 299 U.S. and French troops were killed in the deadliest attack on Americans abroad since World War II and the worst French loss since the Algerian War. <br />
  15. 15. Cd’s<br />People were shocked because they had a new way to listen to music and didn’t have to use recorders anymore. It was convenient to a lot of people and more portable than a record player.<br />
  16. 16. Olympics in L.A.<br />Games that people prepared for. The one reason it drew a lot of people in would be the lighting of the cauldron. People gathered from all around to see this historical event.<br />
  17. 17. Vanessa Williams<br />She was a very successful american with many qualities and traits for one she was a model, and artist, a musician dancer and an actress but a scandal caused her to relinquish her title early.<br />
  18. 18. We Are the World<br />Very popular music video which featured many very prized musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson and many more. It was a song that wanted the world to come together as one it was a huge hit when it was released.<br />
  19. 19. Crack Cocaine<br />Big drug of this time. Was very popular amongst all people. Can be smoked or snorted. Drug of chioce for people at these times. People began realizing that it was harmfull physically so it declined but went back up.<br />
  20. 20. Len Bias<br />Basketball player 1st pick in NBA draft for Boston Celtics He died from an overdose on cocaine this led people to know how dangerous the drug really was.<br />
  21. 21. Nintendo<br />It was a gaming device that was created in the late 80’s. Good use for kids and teenagers. People found this a very incredible invention and that even still carries on today.<br />
  22. 22. Challenger Disaster<br />One of the most shocking moments of this time. People were ecstatic to see a shuttle going to space just explode in mid air without any warning. People lost families and friends that day. The lives of them courageous people will never be forgotten.<br />
  23. 23. Aids<br />Deadly disease found out in the 80’s. Common in homosexual men. Also can be a heterosexual relationship. People who had aids were treated unfairly like they couldn’t be treated as a regular human being.<br />
  24. 24. Supermodel Gia<br />At age 17 she was on the corner of her fathers luncheonette and within a year Gia was one of the top models at this time everybody thought she was very attractive. She is very SEXY!!!!!!!!!<br />
  25. 25. “baby Jessica”<br />Baby that fell down a well. She was trapped down there a long time. She was pretty banged up when they went down to get the child. Firefighters rescued the child and brought her out with no serious injury.<br />
  26. 26. Michael Dukakis<br />Was a very political and important man. He served four terms as a legislator, winning re-election by an increasing margin each time he ran. People really liked this man.<br />
  27. 27. Soviets exit afghanistan<br />After the exotic war with the soviets lethally taking down many of families in Afghanistan they finally decided to leave which was important to the united states because we felt as if we were on the afghan side.<br />
  28. 28. Fashion of the time<br />The people of the 80’s consider there style to be funky and groovy. They liked a lot of colors and shapes and patterns on there clothes. Their style was a lot different then ours today.<br />
  29. 29. Famous movies of this time<br />My personal favorite movie of the 80’s would be the breakfast club. Movies then had complete storylines that could relate to how people felt that why some people say the 80’s was the decade of movies.<br />
