More sophisticated words maybe used in aout specific parts of the magazine. Rock magazines usually classic magazine because this type of music is usuallykeep the similar colours with in their magazine to help keep listened by the older generation. While in a rockbrand identity, for example NME usually has red on their front magazine they would use abrupt words which arecovers as their mast head is usually red which gives some straight to the point and may not always be the mostcolour co-ordination. enticing words.Masthead ArticleThe masthead is a rock magazine is usually bold and situated at The main articles usually relate to the front cover, the top of the page, it is usually keep the same on each magazine the front cover is used to „sell‟ the main story withto keep brand identity and allows the buyer to immediately notice in the magazine. Readers may also use a music magazine would be to learn and expand self education. Thereaders use the magazine to read for their own personal satisfaction but also while doing this they are able to use the information with in the magazine to self educate on topics that they are truly interested in, they are able to find such information for stories, maybe taken from celebrities and singers or „real life‟ stories, this information may relate to actual life, or they could find other information from various articles.
Magazines relate to every different individual and their needs, alsothere are many different reasons why people buy and read musicmagazines, not just for information and gossip, but for personalreasons.
People read magazines for entertainment purposes mainly, but there are other reasons why people read music magazines. Some people read magazines to escape reality, to relax, get intrinsic cultural or aestheticenjoyment, to fulfil time, have an emotional release or sexual arousal. These are many reasons why people use the media, I will be exploring more into these different types of reasons why people use the media and read magazines. Reading magazines may also be a use of relaxation. Readers feel more relaxed when reading magazines as not everyone has the opportunities to take time out for a proper relaxation session, so by reading a magazine is taking 5 or 10 minutes out of reality and enjoying time to unwind and have time for themselves. Relating to reading magazines to relax, it can also be useful for emotional release because reading a magazine will help us understand what is going on in society which helps us in socialisation as we would no longer feel left out as they are able to relate to conversations.
The type of magazine I am going to create is a rock music magazine. The reason I have chosen to create a rock magazine is because I find the controversy appealing, and that they don‟t always go by the codes and conventions, they go against the „rules‟ purposely to stand out and look different against the typical magazine such as a pop magazine. I also like the fact that they make their magazine seem unusual by not always having the most stereotypical role model or having the most appropriate articles. I am also interested in finding more out about Rock music and Rock magazines as a whole because this is not the type of music I usually listen to or know a lot about, and I find theirElements controversy very interesting. The parts of the magazine I am going to include is the cover, contents and feature article. The cover will have to includethe conventions of a typical rock magazine, such as Masthead, main image and sell lines, to help me with the cover I willtake ideas from other rock magazines, such as Kerrang! And NME. The contents page will also represent a usual Rockmagazine contents page which is usually quite full with information, this contrasts with typical R&B which is minimalistic.A feature article in a rock magazine usually has quite controversial stories and issues which are not normally spokeabout in a typical music magazine as rock bands and artists usually bring up social and political issues. Product research From doing my product research I have identified the codes and conventions of various magazines to help me achieve my ultimate magazine. I have found the most magazines keep to the codes and conventions to fit in with the other magazines, they would need to keep such conventions as a Bold masthead to keep brand identity, so the audience are able to see what magazine they are buying straight away. Other codes and conventions include a mainimage which is located on the front cover, this is used to draw the readers attention in, usually used as a advertisement for the magazine., the image is usually relating to the main article. A music magazine would also include a contents page which would summarise everything that is with in the magazine. Another main convention in a magazine would be the main article, which is normally based around a celebrity, or in music magazine s a new artist.Target AudienceThe target audience that will read my music magazine are both sex‟s aged 16+, the reason I have chosen to havethe age bracket as over 16 would be because the reader would be more mature and be interested not only in themusical side of the magazine, but the political and controversial issues which are brought to the readers attention bya famous role model. The types of magazines the inspired me to do my magazine are such magazines as NME and Kerrang! I feel that these magazines are more appealing as they may be predominantly rock music, but they widen the musical categories they talk about, and would include other types of singers such as R&B singer Kanye West. They also include controversial issues which some artists in other magazines would not talk about as they would not want it to effect their image in the media, but rock artists live off their bad rock and roll persona.
Reading magazines help gain an insight into circumstances, the reader will be able to understand what is going on in themedia which will help their social interaction. It also helpsgaining social empathy, this means people may read amagazine in order to be able to answer questions relating tohappenings in the media, as you are putting yourself insomeone else „s position so you can understand moreabout a person to be able to give a judgement. Some magazines are used for a substitute for real life companionship, as some people feel that magazines relate to them and feel like a friend. Magazines want to relate to people, and feel like they are on the same level as their reader, this can be seen through language used; magazines which are aimed for the younger target audience may use language that a young person may use such as „cool‟. The reason people find a companionship in magazines is because they give not only information/gossip but they also may give personal advice to the reader just like a friend would.
The reader of my magazine will not only view it as a device to find information and gossip but they willsee the magazine as a companion who they trust and can find advice from

BlackI have chosen the colour black as I am doinga rock magazine and it is a sharp, strongcolour which stands out against other brightercolours. The colour black also indicates amore serious look, which shows that themagazine and the buyers take their passionof music seriously.
HeadlineTaming Tamara, the rebellious rock chickI have chosen this headline because, it is catchy and it alliterates, so it will be easily read and eye catching. Theheadline also relates to the article about Tamara being a wild rock chick, but when people read the article theyeventually see another side to Tamara, which indicates the magazine have „tamed‟ her from what type of personshe is illustrated like in the media. The second part of the headline „Rebellious rock chick‟ also alliterates, thisshows the image she is usually portrayed like in the media a rebellious rock chick, but as people read on theywill find out that she is more than a rebellious rocker, and has a real passion for music. Subheading “She’s one of the most rebellious rock chicks, but has Core finally be ableovercome her frightful exterior and lady her up? Tamara and gets down and dirty about her past and why her music career changed her for the better and what she is looking forward to this Christmas.” This is a little introduction to my article, it gives an overview of what the readers will find out about when reading the article, it also helps pull the reader in because if they find the subheading interesting they will want to read more into the article. The subheading relates to my article, shows a little of what we will be discussing in the interview, but also leaves the reader wanting to find out more. I have used rhetorical questions to make the reader seem like they want to know the answer to the questions.
Pull Quotes “obviously I care what my fans think, but I This pull quote shows a little of Tamara the rebellious rock chick and, the hard core „uncaring‟ couldn’t give a damn what stupid critics rock side to her which is usually highlighted in thethink, who aren’t even interested in the type media. Using the word „damn‟ shows she is a outspoken artist, who doesn‟t conform to what of rock I sing.” people expect of her and she does her own thing.“ experienced a tough time, I do This gives the reader a little insight to Tamara and her past, they would find this interesting believe music did help me because they would learn more about her background and how she has become well overcome my drug addiction” known in the rock industry. It also shows she isnt perfect, and is like everyone else, she has had her own struggles in life and her passion for music helped her overcome them. “I was a tear- This also gives another insight to her background indicating she away child” hasn‟t had the perfect upbringing and this may be why she has such a hardcore exterior.
I used a verity of props to add effect to the photo shoot, the props helped link the picture to the magazine which is amusical magazine. I used props such as,Electronic guitar to show a hard core rock side to the magazine as this instrument is very well known in the rock industry. It will indicatethat Tamara is a rock artist and also plays musical instruments as well as sings. It also shows what type of music sheplay which is rock.micro phoneindicate that Tamara is a singer and not only plays an instrument, it also shows that she is passionate about music, as Ihave included picture of her singing into the micro phone, it also relates back to the music magazine.headphoneswhich relate to the musical side to the article, it also shows that Tamara has a passion for music and is also highlyinfluenced by music and other musicians. This shows that she is also very into music and loves to listen to musicconstantly.sun glassesto make Tamara look more like a rock star, give her more attitude for being in the media and having a celebrity life style,it also makes her look more rebellious as she hides her eyes from the camera. Using the glasses also makes her lookmore like a high class celebrity.Christmas HatA Christmas hat was used because the magazine is a Christmas issue and I wanted the story to relate to the theme ofthe issue, it also relates to the interview also talks about Tamara‟s Christmas and new year.ChairI used a chair to make Tamara look more rebellious as she sits on the chair with her legs open, this is not the typical wayI woman would sit on a chair, this would also indicate that she is different and does what she wants.
I used different costumes to show a range of different clothes that Tamara would be likely to wear, it would also showa little side of her personality by seeing her wearing different types of clothes which she may be likely to wear.Red DressThe red dress links with the colours of the magazine which are going to be predominantly red and black, thesecolours are usually linked with rock. The red dress also indicates a more glamorous side to the rock chick, the couldeven be said to be „Glam Rock‟. It also links with the Christmas issue as Christmas colours are usually red also.White dressThe white dress links with the article about Tamara, the white is used because the article is about the „New‟ Tamarawho is making a come back, the white shows she is new, fresh and clean, which could also link to her drug addiction,as now she is clean. White also refers back to her personality as people had a opinion of her as a being a „Devilish‟rock chick but in the article it shows she has grown up and matured a lot.Ripped tightsThe ripped tights give a more rebellious look as it shows that even though Tamara has matured a lot she also has theinner rock chick.TutuI decided Tamara should wear a Tutu because it represents the old Tamara, who was fun and wild, it shows that shestill has the type of person with in her even though she has supposedly matured.Doc Martin bootsThese boots where to show that even though Tamara is a rock star she still wears casual clothes which make her lookmore like a rock chick. The boots are also quite „scruffy‟ looking which also represents Tamara as being a bit on thewild side.
