  2. 3. 2010 Third Annual Special Olympics Indiana Ballroom Dance Competition July 31 & August 1, 2010 held at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in downtown Fort Wayne, IN

Dress Rehearsal <ul><li>There will be two dress rehearsals for the 2010 competition in June, 2010 </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Fort Wayne, Indiana </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Indianapolis, Indiana </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Dancers are ask to attend the one closest to their training area </li></ul><ul><li>This is a mandatory attendance for both partners </li></ul>

Stations at Dress Rehearsal <ul><li>Registration for Dress Rehearsal – here you will register yourself and your partner and sign up for each station </li></ul><ul><li>Costume approval – do not wear your costumes just bring them </li></ul><ul><li>Couple photo – here you will have a full body dance position photo taken for the program </li></ul><ul><li>Competition Dance Review – here you will identify what dances will be done </li></ul><ul><li>Competition Skills Review – here you will identify what skills steps will be done </li></ul>

Stations at Dress Rehearsal <ul><li>Competition Opening Ceremony Review – here you will be told how the opening ceremony will be handled </li></ul><ul><li>On Deck Workshop – here you will see a demo of how the On Deck area must be handled </li></ul><ul><li>Awards presentation Review – here you will be told how the awards will be presented and what you will need to automatically do </li></ul><ul><li>Competition Closing Ceremony Review – here you will be told how the opening ceremony will be handled </li></ul><ul><li>Completion of Dress Rehearsal - here you will turn in your Dress Rehearsal completion form and are now authorized to register for the competition. No one can register for the competition that does not have this “Competition of Dress Rehearsal” on file. </li></ul>

Registration Desk What do you need to know? <ul><li>Who your SOI dance partner(s) is/are going to be </li></ul><ul><li>What is the age of your partner </li></ul><ul><li>Name; Address; phone and e-mail for both dancers </li></ul><ul><li>What dances and/or skills you will be dancing </li></ul><ul><li>Both dancers need to have their costumes with them </li></ul><ul><li>Dress code for this event is dressy casual no jeans ( you will be having a photo taken) </li></ul><ul><li>Form will be available online by May 15 </li></ul>

Costume Approval <ul><li>Age of the Special Olympics Athlete controls the categories </li></ul><ul><li>Under age 34 you wear NO BLING </li></ul><ul><li>Age 35 and up you can wear BLING </li></ul><ul><li>Gentlemen: no suites dark slacks and long sleeve white shirts for smooth and long sleeve black shirts for rhythm and tie or bow tie ( general description for full details see USA Dress Code available online) </li></ul>
  8. 9. Couples Photo <ul><li>Each dance couple will have their photo taken and it will appear in the competition program </li></ul><ul><li>BRING YOUR SMILE </li></ul><ul><li>Dress code is : Dressy casual </li></ul><ul><li> no jeans </li></ul>
  9. 10. Competition Dance Review <ul><li>Estimated time of dance will be provided - final time will be available online one week prior to competition </li></ul><ul><li>How to enter the dance floor </li></ul><ul><li>How to exit the dance floor </li></ul>

Competition Skills Review <ul><li>There will be two numbers in the dance package if you have a female partner dancing skills </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>you will remove your number prior to dancing skills </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your female partner will wear the red number while dancing the skills only </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>There will be two numbers in the dance package if you have a male partner dancing skills </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>The red number must be worn by your male </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>partner when he dances skills only </li></ul></ul></ul>

Opening Ceremonies <ul><li>Each county will be represented by a specific color of balloon </li></ul><ul><li>Both partners will carry the balloon in with their free hand </li></ul><ul><li>Dancers will be seated in designated county seating area </li></ul><ul><li>At the end of the opening ceremonies their balloons will be gathered by designated volunteers and placed on balloon trees around the ballroom </li></ul>

On Deck Workshop <ul><li>Your number is your identification in the On Deck area </li></ul><ul><li>Dance couples should be in the On Deck reserve area three heats before they dance </li></ul><ul><li>Until you are lined up in one of the two On Deck lines all male dancers will stand with their backs to the On Deck Captain and On Deck helpers </li></ul>

Awards Presentation <ul><li>The awards presentations will be noted in the program and announced by the MC </li></ul><ul><li>All dance couples are to stand together and come forward as soon as their number is called </li></ul><ul><li>Accept their rewards and move to the photo area with their medals and ribbons </li></ul><ul><li>In the photo area dance couples are to stand the “Kiss Line” style for a photo to be taken and then immediately move back to the holding area to wait for their next awards. </li></ul><ul><li>Once all your awards have been presented and photos taken you should exit the floor </li></ul>

Closing Ceremony <ul><li>All dancers will be given a glow light and they need to shake them and hold them up as they enter the dance floor as a large group </li></ul><ul><li>All dancers are to gather in the center of the dance floor and wave to the audience and the cameras at the end of the dance floor </li></ul><ul><li>After the games are declared closed a chant of “On to 2011 2011” should be heard as the dancers exit the floor to join their family and friends </li></ul>

Competition Information <ul><li>Packet Pick up must be done by Unified Sports ® Dance Partner on Friday, July 30 between 3:00pm and 9:00 pm in front lobby of downtown Hilton Hotel </li></ul><ul><li>The Unified Sports ® Dance Partner must pick up the packets in person and the “Proof of Dance” Form must be presented at that time </li></ul><ul><li>There will be two workshops this year at the competition one on Saturday and one on Sunday tickets $10.00 per workshop </li></ul><ul><li>There will be admission fees for spectators to the competition for 2010 see web site for full details </li></ul>

Completion Dress Rehearsal Desk <ul><li>Once you have attended all the stations you are done for the night and you must turn in your Dress Rehearsal Form at the Completion Dress Rehearsal Desk </li></ul><ul><li>You will also sign a competition “Disclosure Form” at this desk and both partners must sign this form ( if any SOI athlete has a POA that signs for them that person must be there to sign this form ) </li></ul><ul><li>You will also show your “Proof of Dance” form at this time and be prepared to indicate how you plan to complete the 18 dance requirement </li></ul>
  17. 18. Registration Acceptance <ul><li>There must be a Dress Rehearsal Form on file for you in order for your Dance Registration to be accepted </li></ul>
