  2. 2. Bill & Nola (English) brought us and John (Nigerian) to Newcastle during our free time at the orientation
  3. 3. Newcastle is a small seaside resort in County Down at the base of Slieve Donard, one of the Mourne Mountains
  4. 4. Slieve Donard is the highest mountain in Northern Ireland
  5. 5. The Newcastle Presbyterian Church was founded in 1839 & has been in its present location since 1909 It is built with Mourne granite which was used to make paving stones in many cities, including London & New York Mourne granite is also used to make the base of the 9/11 memorial in New York
  6. 6. It was low tide when we were there
  7. 7. The houses along the coastal road
  8. 8. This visually stimulating piece of art, ‘Global Journeys,’ reflects the land, sea, & sky, and depicts the migratory return of the Atlantic salmon (the base) to this area
  9. 9. Apparently, Newcastle is a place where people come to drink coffee & eat ice-cream Mikael & Anna are a Finnish couple studying at BBC
  10. 10. A shop that sells only sweets
  11. 11. Newcastle—a place for retirement? You will see many elderly folks as you walk around the town
